Chapter 436
In Sophia’s mind, Iranklin only had eyes for her sister Julia and couldn’t possibly like Maggie. So even when she saw Franklin with Maggie, she didn’t think much of it -obviously he was there for Isabella.
Just then, she noticed Isabella standing in front of Maggie, tipping her chin up as she spoke to her.
Sophia let out a derisive snort.
Isabella didn’t see Sophia at all; she was completely captivated by the drums.
“Mommy, the drum set looks super cool. I want to learn!” she said, excited.
Maggie, of course, wouldn’t object.
But with her and Franklin about to finalize their divorce–and custody with Franklin–Isabella’s lessons should technically be his call.
Maggie smiled lightly. “You have to ask your dad.”
Isabella turned sideways. “Daddy, can I?”
Franklin smiled. “You can.”
“Yay!” Isabella cheered, grabbing Maggie with one hand and Franklin with the other. “Let’s go sign up now!”
Franklin didn’t move. He bent and patted her head. “No rush. If you want to learn, why don’t we pick out a drum set you like first? Once we have it, I’D
find a teacher to come to the house.”
Isabella’s eyes lit up. “Yes, yes! Let’s go now! I want the coolest one!”
She dropped Franklin’s hand and tugged Maggie out of the crowd, then looked back. “Daddy, where do we buy it?”
Franklin took out his phone and followed them. “I’ll make a call and ask.”
“Okay!”
Maggie was about to tell Isabella she shouldn’t come along, but the girl was so happy and insistent–and Franklin was clearly making calls–that Maggie couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
After the call, Franklin stepped up beside her. “Should I ride with you?”
Maggie hadn’t answered yet when Isabella chirped, “Yes, yes!”
Given the situation, how could Maggie say no?
Without another word, she left the square with Isabella and Franklin and headed for the underground parking lot.
Sophia never thought much of Maggie, but when she saw the three of them looking so much like a happy little family, she felt a stab of irritation–even knowing Franklin despised Maggie,
Then she noticed how fond Maggie seemed of Isabella and remembered that not only did Franklin dislike Maggie, but even her own beloved daughter preferred Julia. Her mood lifted at once.
Her boba finally came.
She shot a sneer at Maggie’s retreating back, grabbed her drink, and left.
She returned to the Brown house. Most of the family was there.
Chapter 436
Spotting Julia. Sophia walked over with a smile. “Sis, you’re back early?”
She knew Julia had a dinner engagement that night.
Julia answered with a mild “Mm.” “Done with the movie?”
“No. It was super boring. I left after half an hour.” Sophia took another sip.
“Oh right–after I came out, I saw my brother–in–law and Maggie at the square.”
