Chapter 437
Julia’s hand paused mid–sip at Sophia’s words.
she quickly smoothed over her expression, no one else seemed to notice.
Logan asked, “Julia, did Franklin get back to the country?”
Julia’s lashes trembled.
Could she say she had no idea Franklin was even back?
He… hadn’t told her. She’d called earlier and he hadn’t picked up–she’d assumed he was busy-
Before she could speak, Logan smiled and went on, “We owe Franklin for last time. We’ve been meaning to invite him over for dinner, but you said he was on trip abroad, so Dad never brought it up. Since he’s back, ask him when he’s free.”
Old Mrs. Brown nodded. “Yes, we should have Franklin here for a proper meal.”
Julia came back to herself and forced a smile. “Okay. I’ll tell him later.”
The conversation moved on.
As for Sophia’s mention of Franklin going out with Maggie, neither the Greens nor the Browns gave it a second thought.
They assumed Franklin was the same as ever–utterly uninterested in Maggie–and that if he was with her, it was because of Isabella. They also took it for granted that he had already told Julia.
Julia knew exactly what they were thinking.
She’d thought the same in the past, which was why she’d never taken Maggie seriously.
But now-
She couldn’t taste her food. Setting her bowl down, she stood. “I’m going upstairs.”
Janice, who’d had a special cup of coffee made for Julia–pale as she’d been lately–said, “Have some more?”
Julia shook her head. “I can’t.”
She went upstairs and immediately called Franklin.
The call connected but no one picked up.
Her grip tightened around the phone,
When it finally disconnected, she thought about calling Isabella, but after a moment’s hesitation, she didn’t.
Meanwhile, Maggie and Franklin had arrived at a high–end drum brand store.
It seemed someone had called ahead. As soon as they walked up, a staff member greeted them at the door. “Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Wilson? Please, come in.”
At “Mr. and Mrs. Wilson,” Maggie’s step faltered. Franklin nodded slightly and, noticing her pause, turned his head. “Let’s go in.”
Before Maggie could respond, Isabella–dazzled by the sleek drum kits–tightened her grip on Maggie’s hand and pulled her inside.
There were no price tags. Maggie didn’t know instruments, but from the décor and the craftsmanship alone, it was obvious every set cost a small fortune.
Still, neither she nor Franklin lacked money, and Isabella deserved the best–price wasn’t the issue.
Boundless with energy, Isabella ran through the showroom in minutes and loved almost everything she saw.
When Franklin felt she’d looked enough, he said, “If you like it, try one.”
Chapter 437
“Can 17” Isabella asked the manager.
“Of course,” he replied, moving to guide her hands and posture.
Maggie stayed where she was to watch–until Franklin took her wrist gently.
“Come sit for a bit,” he said, and drew her along.
