My Ex Husband The Alpha His Brother The Rogue novel Chapter 12

Grandfather Blackwood’s mansion is every bit as intimidating as the man. The walls are as high as a fortress and the gates are guarded by trained and armed security personnel. Every identification is verified before being allowed through.

A decade before he took over the pack, the Blackwood Pack was just another unknown and insignificant pack on the continent. Grandfather Blackwood singlehandedly rewrote that, and now, the Blackwood Pack is the most prestigious on the continent.

But it didn’t come without consequences. He’s made many enemies in the Blackwood’s rise to the top, and there are many people who bear grudges. Even now, so many decades after, assassination attempts are not

uncommon.

He’s also now a major player in Thorneville politics. Word has it, he’d be running for a leading position on the werewolf committee, which again attracts quite a number of grudges.

The Blackwood Mansion has always been intimidating. In the three years Cameron and I were married, I’d been through this gates thrice.

First, on the night my father sold me to the Blackwoods to repay his debt. The second was on Cameron and I’s wedding banquet. It was also the first time I met Kael.

The third was a family function, and also the day Cameron introduced Kelly and Sarah to Grandfather Blackwood.

On all three occasions, I didn’t come here of my own will.

And here I am once again, summoned by the Grandfather of both my Ex and current husband who probably still hates my guts.

My lips twitch slightly at the irony.

As the car pulls up to the entrance, there are two maids waiting outside to receive me.

They’re dressed in a similar uniform, all the domestic staff of the mansion are mandated to be, and they guide me to where Steve, the butler is waiting before scurrying away.

Grandfather Blackwood is a very strict man and a stickler for order, especially in his home. Since I’ve known the man, I’ve not seen a single thing out of place about him.

Good morning, SteveI say, a practiced smile on my lips.

Miss Laila Steve inclines his head slightly

Mr Blackwood is having his breakfast now? Steve relays, You can wait in the study and I’ll let him know you’ve arrived.

He begins to lead the way but I interrupt him.

It’s fine. I know the way.I shake my head slightly and head towards the stairs.

Everything is just as it was three years ago. The flower vases, the large frames lining the walls, it doesn’t look like a single thing has been moved.

Laila Grandfather Blackwood’s voice stops me in my tracks just as I get halfway up.

I pass a look to Steve who nods and I get back down, making my way to the dining hall.

The door is partly opened, but Grandfather Blackwood doesn’t glance over, he simply gestures for me to take

a seal

For a long moment, he doesn’t speak. Simply cutting into his steak. Then finally he says. You’re early.

Kael dropped me off on his way to Liam’s kindergarten.” I explained, Today is his first day.”

Grandfather Blackwood hummed in approval. You don’t drive, do you?He asked. Come to think of ityou never did, even back then. Yet Cameron bought you a car on every birthday.”

I bite the inside of my cheeks to keep my smile from dropping. I’d known grandfather Blackwood kept his eyes on everything, but I didn’t realise he was so well informed about our lives to even figure this out.

No. I don’t.I admit.

Cameronhe was never able to tell. But even his grandfather could see it. Kael could too.

It was only after the divorce that I realised we were practically strangers living in the same home.

Grandfather Blackwood nods slowly. When I heard from Cameron, it displeased me. I sent people to your home pack looking for you, to bring you back. You never went home.He states casually.

If I know anything about him, the pleasantries are over. He didn’t ask any question but his presence itself demanded an explanation.

I fulfilled my duty to my pack and to Cameron. There is nothing to return to.I reply blankly. “I chose to live for myself

He passes me a side glance. “And that’s how you met Kael? Living for yourself?

To him, it must look like I have ulterior motives. After all, not many women have been the daughterinlaw of the same family twice.

His tone is unreadable. But Grandfather Blackwood is a resourceful man. If he is asking, then he already knows exactly how I met Karl

No. We first crossed paths here in Thorneville, on the night I was banishedI answer truthfully.

Grandfather Blackwoods knife pauses midcut For just a moment,

The way you say it, one would think being banished from Thorneville did you more good than harm. He commented,

It did I reply without flinching from his piercing gaze.

Grandfather Blackwood hums in thought, pondering over my words. For a long moment, he’s quiet again.

So am I. Maybe he wants me to say more. But I don’t owe him any further explanations.

Finally, he breaks the silence. Three years ago, you were timid. Unremarkable as LunaHe paused briefly.

You’re not the same girl that married Cameron. He pointed out.

1 shrug. No.

He leans back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest.

I wonder,he muses, Did Kael mold this version, or was Cameron too blind to dig deep enough?

Does it matter?I ask softly.

Something like amusement flickers in his eyes.

When I saw you, my first thought was that Kael married you to punish Cameron,he says. But perhapshe finally outsmarted him.”

I’m not a pawn between them,I murmur blankly.

He chuckles quietly.

That’s exactly what a pawn would say.His lips stretch into a smile. Not a kind smile, but a dangerous one. A smile that tells me, he will be watching.
