A sharp pain pulses through my ribs. Like someone’s driving a blade into it repeatedly. The force grows stronger with each breath I take.

The pain isn’t like anything I’ve ever felt before. It’s nothing like a gunshot or a knife wound which are common occurrences in the world I live in.

Instead, it’s a strange heata burning sensation from deep within my veins. It’s so strong, I feel like I’m on fire from within.

My vision blurs and a foreign desire stirs in me, strong and all consuming. All the blood in my body must be rushing south because I’m painfully hard and aroused. My manhood throbs and pulses with need, straining against my pants.

I’ve never felt this way before, but I know what this feeling means

I’ve been drugged. It’s most likely a very strong aphrodisiac for it to have such an effect on me.

I can’t believe I let my guard down.

My muscles feel weak and heavy, weighing me down. My hand on the wall is the only thing holding me up from losing my balance. I can barely move my legs but I push through, getting around to take a seat behind my desk.

Sitting should help, I think. It doesn’t.

I’ll kill him!Blake is fuming as he paces around my office, passing me worried glances every so often. Whoever is behind this, they’ll pay.He vows solemnly.

If I wasn’t in so much pain, I might have been just as furious. On the other hand, I know this wasn’t done by someone who wants to hurt me. It’s certainly not Alpha Scott either.

I’m a cautious man. Every worker in my den has worked for me for years already. Which means, this can only be an inside job.

But who

My mind is too foggy to think. I grit my teeth against the pain, exhaling slowly in hopes of finding some relief.

I don’t. The pain is only growing stronger by the second and I grip the edges of my chair tightly enough, my knuckles have all turned white.

Blake runs a hand through his hair, watching me with eyes heavy with concern.

KaelHe hesitates for a moment. You have to get it out of your system.

My eyes narrow into a glare at his implication. I’ll be fine.I force out the words through gritted teeth.

Sweat is beaded on my forehead and drips down the sides of my face. My mind conjures up several images, and most of them center around one person….

Naked bodies entangled, mine and hers,

Those soft moans from the night of the gala resurface in my mind. Her eyes hooded with a desire for me neither of us knew she had, her lips parted in breathless gasps, her legs twitching slightly as I pleased her,

My mind keeps bringing up that certain memory. It’s urging me to the intimacy and release my body is in need of.

I shake my head slightly to clear my thoughts. Thinking about it doesn’t help my situation.

Kael. Blake reasons, “I’ll call up Julie. He turns to leave but I stop him.

Julie, she’s one of the rogues I saved a long while ago and manages the club above. Everyone knows how she feels about me, she hasn’t been shy about her desires at all.

I won’t act the saint and claim she’s not been in my bed once or twice. But then again, I’ve had many women in my bedjust not in the past year.

Don’t.I hiss lowly. Don’t callanyone.

Then let me drive you home to Laila.” Blake offers after a moment of hesitation.

I frown at that. Home to Laila? In this state?

Blake sighs, “Kael, you’ve abstained for a year already. It’s clear you feel something different about Lailawhy won’t you claim her?

My eyes narrow into a stern glare. I don’t see the relationship between my decision to end my flings and Laila’s presence.

Of course I feel different about her. She’s in love with my brother. And Cameron equally has a soft spot for her, even if they both won’t admit it.

That’s the only reason she’s by my side. And that’s all she’s worth to me.

We both know that was only true in the past. Now, Laila

Now, what?!I hiss.

Laila sincerely takes care of you. She never keeps Liam away from you or denies you access to him in any way, and we all know how protective she is of him.

Even after what happened at the Axis loft and Bluewater Department Store a few days ago, she still let it slide. Contract and all, she doesn’t even have to do any of that.

I purse my lips. She’s just fulfilling her end of our bargain. To Laila, I’m a shield for her and Liam, to keep the Blackwoods from taking him away.”

That’s all I mean to her. She’s been clear about it from the start, so we could avoid any misunderstandings down the line.

The Blackwoods live by a very tight order. My Grandad would never allow Laila raise Liam after the divorce. He would be made out to be Sarah’s son, like Kelly was made out to be Laila’s daughter while she was Cameron’s wife.

He has zero tolerance for scandals. Especially when it comes to the successions line. And Laila doesn’t have the means to fight itappeal for custody in court? My Grandad owns half the city.

I know Laila better than you do, Blake. If she had any other way to hide Liam’s identity from the Blackwoods entirely, than utilizing me, she would have left my side a long time ago.” My tone is tight as I speak, warning Blake from carrying on any further.

Blake seems to have more to say, but he finally sighs and backs down. What then?

I shrug, forcing a pained smirk to my lips. Let Laila know I won’t be coming home tonight.I murmur.

Blake nods. He heads over to the door, pausing for a moment to pass me a concerned look before he leaves.
