My Ex Husband The Alpha His Brother The Rogue novel Chapter 61

:

I’m still contemplating returning to the group when I hear Cameron’s furious snarl.

Cam!Alpha Tyler calls out. What the f*ck man?!

My brows furrow slightly. What exactly is going on over there?

When I left, Cameron was disappointed, yes, but he wasn’t raging. Isn’t it a bit too late to change his reaction

now?

I walk back to the clearing to see him storming away from Tyler, into the forest path the opposite direction from where I stand.

From the glimpse I catch of him before he disappears beyond the tree line, his fists are clenched and his muscles are pulled taught.

He’s fuming. But why?

Cameron cares a lot about his image and the reputation he’s built for being calm and levelheaded compared to most Alphas his age, so it takes a lot to agitate him.

I’ve only seen him this furious at the memorial hospital when he accused me of poisoning Kelly.

The entire clearing is in stunned silence, even Alpha Tyler is at a loss and even looks somewhat terrified.

He’s holding a flask in his hand and staring after Cameron with his mouth still agape, so I walk over to him.

What happened?I ask in a serious tone,

Tyler shakes his head slightly, his expression dismayed. I don’t know, I wanted him to try the wine Katie brewed, but then he snapped.

I glance down at the flask in his hand, reaching for it. May I?

Tyler nods quickly and hands it over to me. I tilt my head back, taking a small sip of the wine and just as the flavor hits my buds, my eyes widen.

It’s Raspberry wine!

Cameron’s severly allergic to it! And I know becauseLiam is as well

Did he drink this?!I demand, my tone coming out harsher than I intend.

Tyler’s eyes widen at the change in my tone and he nods slowly.

He’s justa bit stressed. We’ll be back in a short time.I murmur in a halfhearted attempt to salvage the situation, and then I hurry after Cameron.

Cameron is long gone through the forest, it’s impossible to catch up with him, and I’m not even sure where to start looking.

I just keep walking down the path, following the tracks of his boot for as far as they lead.

It’s already past sundown and this is not the time to stray away from the group, but I guess Cameron’s not in the position to consider that right now.

I glance up at the skies. The clouds look suspiciously darker and I think back to the storm Cameron smelled.

I have to find him. And quickly.

Getting caught in a storm won’t do either of us any good.

Cameron!I call out, glancing around.

No response.

Come on, I know you can hear me!I try again, You can’t just take off like that!

Still, he doesn’t respond.

The forest is almost perfectly still, until I hear something.

I stop walking and listen for the sound. Sure enough, it comes again, this time it’s more obvious.

It sounds like someone’s choking.

Cameron!

I break into a dash, running as fast as my wet, sloppy boots allow, in the direction of the sound.

And then, I see him.

Dread creeps down my spine.

He’s sitting on the snow, hidden away by tall trees. His back is leaned against a tree as he claws at his chest, while drawing in struggled, gasping breaths.

Shit! Shit!I hiss, dashing over to him.

I drop to my knees by his side. Panic clawing at my insides,

Cameron?! Can you hear me?!I call,

His eyes lift to mine, but his gaze is unfocused. It’s almost like he’s staring at me but he doesn’t truly see me.

His hands are still clawing frantically at his throat, his chest rises and falls rapidly and he shrinks into himself, instinctively hiding away from whoever he thinks I might be.

It’s only me.I quickly reassure him, grabbing his hands on instinct to calm him. It’s just me. There’s no one che here.”

He struggles to free his hands but I hold on as tight as I can. After a few heartbeats, his struggles slow.

His eyes find mine again and I see the recognition in them.

Breathe CamI encourage him, moving his hands to rest against my chest, right over my heart, so he feels the rhythm beneath his palm,

You’re fine, just breathe with me

Cameron gasps hoarsely and I wince, swallowing down my own panic,

It’s okay. It’s okay, I’m hereI whisper slowly, I’m right here with you

After what seems like forever, his breaths settle and his eyes go closed, a strangled sound in his throat.

When his eyes come open again, they find mine and linger, searching

I can’t hide the panic and concern in my gaze if I tried. Or the silent tears trailing down my cheeks as the panic clawing at my throat finally fades,

I don’t even want to hide it.

I hate Cameron. For all he did to me, for all he put me through.

But I realize, I don’t want him hurt.

I thought I wouldn’t care. I thought as long as I had no hand in it, it’s only his karma. I even told myself he deserves whatever comes to him.

He deserves more pain than he’s caused me. And he doeshe does,

But I don’t think I can bear to see him hurt.

He shifts slightly, leaning his head against my shoulder.

LailsHe whispers, his voice still hoarse,

Don’t speak.” I dissuade, Just rest

you I’m sorryfor everything. I regretted it the moment you left. I searched everywhere for but just, gone

I’ve lived for years with the thought that these regrets are all that’s left of us. But seeing you nowright in front of my eyes, within my reachHe pauses, exhaling shakily,

I keep wanting things, I can’t help myself. I can’t help how I feel
