My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1074

Emily paused at the door, her hand resting on the knob. For a moment, she just stood there, turning over the assistant’s words in her head. If Andrew and Isabella weren’t really married… what did that mean? She felt stuck, caught between curiosity and hesitation.

Andrew, even looking pale and sick, was still sharp. “If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”

She frowned, but turned and walked back to his bedside.

He watched her with that soft look he always had for her. “Could you get me some water?”

Emily shot him a look, but went ahead and poured him a glass. She handed it over, and he took a few slow sips.

She hesitated, opening her mouth but not sure where to start. “Your assistant told me some things…”

She trailed off. Did it really matter if Dennis was Andrew’s biological son or not? Did she even want to ask? But the words had already slipped out, and she instantly regretted it.

Andrew nodded, giving her back the glass. She set it on the nightstand as he said, “Yeah, he told me. Kept apologizing, said he upset you. So, what is it? What do you want to know?”

Emily met his eyes, took a steadying breath, and just went for it. “Is Dennis your real son?”

She half-expected him to look insulted. For a lot of men, a question like that would hit a nerve. But Andrew looked completely calm, even a little amused.

She frowned, confused.

Andrew watched her closely. “Does it bother you?”

“I’m not sure what you mean,” she replied.

He smiled, just a little. “Are you put off by the fact that I have a son? Is that why you won’t agree to be with me? I get it, dating a man with a kid isn’t exactly appealing.”

Emily just stared at him for a second, then closed her eyes, trying to hold back her frustration. “That’s not what this is about.”

He kept smiling, his eyes gentle. “You don’t have to worry about him. He’s not going to stand between us. He can’t.”

She didn’t want to hear this. It was starting to get on her nerves. “Can you just…”

Suddenly, Andrew interrupted. “He’s not my son.”

Emily blinked, her brows drawing together as she studied his face. He looked completely honest, not bothered at all. He wasn’t making a joke.

He just admitted it, so easily?

She hesitated, then asked, “Did you know from the start?”

He looked down, chuckling. “You probably won’t believe me, but Isabella and I were only married on paper. Any kid she had… it couldn’t be mine.”

Really? Andrew and Isabella married for five years, and nothing happened between them? Was that possible?

She ran through the timeline in her head. If Andrew was telling the truth, Dennis had to be Benjamin Gomez’s son.

She felt a little dazed. A man like Andrew, with all his pride and status, raising someone else’s kid? A child his wife had with another man? And he didn’t even seem to care.
