**TITLE: He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 64: The Guilt**
Yet that boy never uttered a single word.
Oriana found herself lost in thought, unsure of what Micah might like. With a sense of determination, she decided to move all of her toys—along with Owen’s—into his room, hoping to rekindle some connection. She couldn’t quite remember if he ever played with them, but she took solace in the joy they brought her each night, lost in her own little world.
However, the tranquility of her life was soon shattered. Her grandmother’s health took a drastic turn for the worse, plunging her into a state of profound sorrow. The days dragged on, filled with worry and heartache, until the inevitable happened—her grandmother passed away, leaving a void that Oriana felt deep within her soul.
In her grief, Oriana cried until she could no longer keep her eyes open, succumbing to a fever that consumed her for days. Eventually, her family decided it was best to travel abroad, seeking solace and healing in a new environment. As they journeyed, Oriana slowly began to let go of the memories of the boy in the room next door, though the ache in her heart remained.
After the initial shock of her grandmother’s passing faded, Oriana was left with an unsettling feeling of awkwardness when it came to facing Micah. A sudden wave of guilt washed over her—the guilt of having abandoned a childhood friend without so much as a goodbye. They had been separated for over a decade, and the weight of that absence pressed heavily on her conscience.
“I’m sorry,” she finally managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. “Back then, I was so consumed with my own world that I didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye.”
Micah, ever perceptive, noticed the unease radiating from her. He raised his hand, his fingers gently brushing against her cheek, trying to soothe the emotional turmoil that had taken hold of her. His touch was warm, a stark contrast to the chill that had settled in her heart, and it helped ease the tension etched on her face.
With a soft smile gracing his lips, Micah replied, “I know. The day your grandmother passed, I opened my window and heard you crying all the way down the stairs. Your voice was hoarse, filled with pain.”
Oriana felt her heart constrict as she lowered her gaze, tears brimming in her eyes. “I don’t blame you,” she said, her voice trembling. “You were devastated, and I should be the one apologizing. You were always so kind to me, but I never returned that kindness.”
She remembered how Micah had been sick and withdrawn back then, barely able to speak a word. The memories flooded back, bittersweet and painful.
“When I finally recovered and sought you out, I heard your voice calling for Grant. The way you said his name was so clear and bright, filled with joy. It struck me then, how much you had moved on.”
“Then, after what happened with the Sterling family, I wanted to take you away, but I was always just a step behind,” he confessed, his voice laced with regret.
“You found the home you had always wanted,” he continued, his tone gentle yet firm. “The journey was painful, but the outcome was worth it. I didn’t want to interfere.”
Oriana’s heart sank at his words. “I just didn’t expect that, in such a short span of three years, he would betray you. Luckily, this time, I wasn’t too late.”
Though Micah’s face remained calm, a serene smile lingering, Oriana felt a tear escape her eye, rolling down her cheek. His words were soothing, yet they stirred a storm of emotions within her. She had chased after Grant for so long, always donning a smile, refusing to give up, even when the loneliness and heartbreak threatened to consume her. Only she knew how deeply painful that pursuit had been.
What surprised her most was the realization that someone even more foolish than herself had quietly followed her all along. It wasn’t merely luck that brought her to a good person; it was Micah’s relentless efforts to find her.
“Micah, are you out of your mind?” she asked, incredulity lacing her tone.
