**He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 89: An Unexpected Intervention**
Oriana let out a scornful snort, her eyes narrowing as she regarded James with a mix of disbelief and amusement. “So, let me get this straight. You’re claiming that you purposely turned your back to me, inviting a hit, and then were just too slow to react?”
“You-!” James sputtered, his indignation flaring.
“Pathetic fool! Still trying to play the tough guy?” Cormac’s voice thundered, resonating with authority that filled the room and silenced any dissent. James might have dared to challenge Leo, but confronting his professor directly was a different matter entirely. Reluctantly, he took a step back, though the fire of resentment still flickered in his eyes.
Cormac’s gaze swept across the room, finally landing on Oriana, who stood her ground with an air of quiet confidence, neither arrogant nor servile. He narrowed his eyes slightly, assessing her. “You have quite the sharp tongue. Which department do you belong to? And do you even grasp the significance of this place?”
With clarity and precision, Oriana laid out the entire situation, recounting the events from start to finish. She then played the recording for everyone present, the tension in the air thickening as the truth unfolded.
As the recording played, even Leo’s expression grew taut, his brow furrowing in concern. He cast a lingering glance at Luna, who had expertly concealed herself from view, her presence almost ghostlike.
The humiliation of having his student’s foolishness laid bare before so many eyes was a bitter pill for the esteemed Professor Cormac to swallow. His face darkened, and he shot a venomous glare at James, who had lowered his head in shame, his earlier bravado evaporating. “Look at the mess you’ve created!”
James accepted the reprimand meekly, the fire in his spirit extinguished.
Meanwhile, Lily, who had been frozen in shock, finally snapped back to reality. “Mr. Flint, you have to deliver justice for Oriana! She was supposed to be part of the MDT team!” Her voice trembled with urgency, a plea for fairness echoing in the charged atmosphere.
Cormac fell silent, his hands clasped tightly behind his back. At this juncture, no matter Oriana’s qualifications, he was resolute in his decision to deny her entry. “The reason for the rejection is clearly stated in the recording. James had legitimate grounds to suspect that your supervisor’s signature was forged. Therefore, the rejection stands. As for his last-minute decision to reject it, that is a trivial issue and does not undermine the validity of the review. On the contrary, it is you who are making a mountain out of a molehill and showing utter disrespect!”
His words dripped with bias, a thinly veiled attempt to shield James while shifting the blame onto Oriana.
James’s face lit up with a triumphant smile. His sacrifices had not been in vain; his professor still stood by him!
