Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 102

Jonathan was sitting on the sofa, having just finished half a bottle of red wine, when his phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID, answered, and after listening to what the person on the other end said, his eyes narrowed dangerously.

“Wait there.”

With that, he grabbed his coat and walked right out the door.

When Stephanie came out of the shower, she saw a half-empty bottle of red wine on the coffee table in the living room.

She seemed to recall seeing many bottles of this brand in the wine cabinet. Was it that good?

She licked her lips. She was a bit thirsty, so she poured a small glass and took a couple of sips.

It was sweeter than she expected, with a pleasant aftertaste.

She wanted to try more when she faintly heard her phone ringing.

She walked over and saw that she had more than a dozen missed calls.

Did someone need her for something?

Stephanie unlocked her phone. It was Victoria.

What did she want?

Stephanie was about to block her number when another call came in from her.

Her hand slipped, and she accidentally answered. From the other end came Victoria’s frantic voice, “Stephanie, don’t hang up!”

Stephanie could hear the sob in Victoria's voice.

What was this? Was she playing the victim?

She sat on the bed, curling her legs up, and asked irritably, “What do you want?”

“Quennel got into a fight with someone. He’s at the police station now.”

Quennel? In a fight?

Fighting was something completely foreign to Quennel. He’d been a model student since his school days and never got into brawls.

Victoria hurriedly explained the gist of what had happened over the phone.

Stephanie’s tone was icy. “So?”
