Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 113

This was nothing. He continued, smiling, "Oh, you're still holding a grudge against me? I was just talking off the cuff."

Stephanie frowned.

Zachary said, "I know a new place that just opened, their Boston lobster is pretty good. It's hard to get a table, but a friend of mine owns it. How about I take you to try it?"

Stephanie had no patience for his beating around the bush. "Mr. Wright, if you have something to say, you can just say it over the phone. We don't have to have a meal."

Why not just communicate efficiently instead of insisting on a meeting?

What young woman would want to have a private meal with a man in his fifties?

Those who knew would understand they were colleagues, but those who didn't might speculate about their relationship.

Zachary sensed that Stephanie wasn't going to play along.

He hesitated for a moment, then said, "Let's still meet to talk. If you feel it's inconvenient, why don't you bring Professor Sanders along?"

Stephanie thought to herself, You want to use Professor Sanders as a mediator, but she might not even give you the time of day.

After being thoroughly chewed out by Monica over the phone last time, he actually had the nerve to suggest involving her again.

Stephanie held the phone away from her ear. "Mr. Wright, I just remembered I have something urgent to attend to. I have to go."

"Stephanie, hey! Don't hang up—"

Without waiting for Zachary to say anything else, Stephanie ended the call.

Did he think she was at his beck and call?
