Victoria shook her head, her eyes red. “Stephanie isn’t the other woman. Please don’t say that about her.”
“If she’s not, what is she? I’ve never seen a homewrecker so arrogant they’d hit the original partner,” Serena said, defending Victoria.
“Alright, let’s just drop it. Let’s not talk about this anymore. Stephanie and I have made up,” Victoria announced to everyone. “Let’s all get back to work.”
“Victoria, you’re too nice,” Serena said, taking her arm. “You’re so kind, letting her off the hook just like that. What if she bullies you again in the future?”
“She won’t. I was in the wrong too. I shouldn’t have tried to frame her at work.”
Just then, Troy walked over and said sternly to Victoria, “Victoria, you’ve just been promoted to Associate Director. You need to act with more maturity. We can’t have a repeat of today’s incident. It caused too much of a stir and looks bad. The boss even called to ask what happened, and I had to cover for you, saying it was a personal matter.”
Victoria understood that Troy was trying to make her feel indebted to him. She quickly replied, “I’ll always remember your support, Mr. Cooper. I’ll treat you to dinner sometime to thank you.”
After leaving the meeting room, Stephanie went straight to see the boss.
Her boss and her mentor were old friends, and he had always looked out for her.
There was something she needed to clarify.
As soon as the assistant saw Stephanie approaching, he immediately opened the door, as if he had been expecting her.
The rich aroma of coffee filled the air as it slowly dripped into a cup from the machine.
Zachary Wright was making pour-over coffee. He placed the freshly brewed cup in front of Stephanie.
“Sit.”
The scent of the coffee wafted over her, and Stephanie felt some of the tension in her nerves begin to ease.
