Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 94

With that, Monica headed to the kitchen and started washing her hands to prepare the meal.

Stephanie went to help, and Monica asked, "So what are your plans now? Why not come back to the university and help me?"

Monica knew that Stephanie had signed a non-compete agreement with Sapphire Group, which would prevent her from working in the same industry for a while without facing a hefty penalty.

But it was such a waste for a talent like her to be held back by a non-compete during her prime years.

Returning to the university was a good option. The non-compete wouldn't apply, and she could explore new research avenues. Working as a formal research assistant for her mentor would come with a contract and a salary, much like a regular job, but in a simpler environment.

Stephanie knew Monica meant well and decided to be honest. "Actually, while I was on vacation, several companies reached out to me, trying to recruit me."

"But your non-compete agreement..."

Monica understood immediately. Good talent was hard to find, and a recruiting company would naturally offer to cover the penalty for breaking a non-compete.

"Since Zachary showed no loyalty, we owe him none. Does he really think we can't survive without him?"

"Go ahead and take any offer you want. I support you completely. And if you ever change your mind, my door is always open for you."

Stephanie had expected the normally upstanding Monica to reprimand her for violating her agreement. She was surprised and deeply touched by her mentor's support.

She held Monica in even higher esteem.

After leaving her professor's apartment, she received a call from Ternence. "Stephanie, come over for dinner tomorrow."

Stephanie was surprised that Ternence would call her personally.

She had been wanting to talk to him again but hadn't found the right opportunity. After all, returning to that house after breaking up with Quennel felt a bit awkward.
