On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 314

Lance took Amy’s hand, and with one last look back at the hotel, they left. As they pulled up to their house, they saw a disheveled Catherine Brown outside, shouting.

“Lance Smith, come out here! You promised you’d take care of me forever! You promised you’d marry me! Come out and marry me!”

Amy looked at her father. Lance took a deep breath and stayed in the car, watching as security guards gently escorted Catherine away. Only then did he get out.

But in that split second, Catherine broke free and lunged at him, a paring knife suddenly in her hand. Lance reacted instantly, moving to dodge, but then, just as he was about to clear the blade’s path, he stopped. The sharp point sank into his abdomen.

The guards tackled Catherine, her face scraping against the pavement. “You broke your promise, Lance Smith!” she screamed. “People who break promises deserve to die! I’ll kill you, and then I’ll join you! We’ll be together in the next life! I’ll never let you go!”

Lance was rushed to the hospital. The wound wasn’t deep; after some stitches, he was told he’d be fine to go home in a few days. Catherine was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

In the hospital room, Amy sat by his bed. “I saw you, Dad. You did that on purpose.”

Lance stroked her hair. “That was wrong of me, Amy. Don’t be like me. I just… wanted some peace.”

Amy nodded. “I understand, Dad.”

Three years after their wedding, Jessica and George had a daughter. The very next day, George had a vasectomy. Arthur George was so furious he nearly disowned him, but when he held his newborn great-granddaughter—so perfect and lovely—he had a change of heart. If Anthony could break the rule about marrying a divorced woman, who was to say a girl couldn’t inherit the family business?

At the baby’s one-month celebration, Jessica was cooing at her daughter when Anthony came into the room.
