**Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 54**
“Yeah, you’re right.”
Adam felt a spark ignite within him, a flicker of hope that had been dormant for far too long. His eyes brightened, and with newfound determination, he turned on his heel and strode out of the hospital, his heart racing with anticipation. The drive home felt electric, as if every mile brought him closer to Renee, the thought of her fueling his resolve.
As he navigated the familiar streets, he couldn’t help but engage in a one-sided conversation with himself, a ritual of sorts to bolster his spirits. “Renee, you have to be home. You have to be waiting for me,” he murmured, repeating the phrase like a mantra, a desperate prayer echoing in the chambers of his mind. Each repetition was a plea to the universe, a longing that resonated deep within his soul.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally pulled into the driveway of Camphor Manor. But as the car rolled to a stop, the darkness enveloping the house swallowed his hope whole. The absence of light was a chilling reminder of his worst fears. A cold gust of wind seemed to pierce through him, chilling him to the bone and sending shivers down his spine.
Yet, he refused to succumb to despair. With a surge of adrenaline, he cut the engine and bolted inside, his voice echoing through the empty halls. “Renee? Honey?” he called out, desperation creeping into his tone. He sprinted up the staircase, his heart pounding in his chest, filled with the fervent hope that she would be there waiting for him.
Pushing open the bedroom door, he declared, “Honey, I’m home…” His voice was tinged with a blend of excitement and trepidation. As he flicked on the light switch, the room erupted into brightness, illuminating every corner.
Yet, the sight before him was disheartening. The bed was meticulously made, untouched, devoid of any signs of life. Adam’s heart sank with each passing second, a lead weight settling in his chest. But he clung to the hope that perhaps she was in the bathroom. He made his way there, pushing the door open with a sense of urgency.
The bathroom, too, was empty.
Just then, the housekeeper, alerted by the commotion, hurried upstairs. Upon seeing Adam, her brow furrowed with concern. “Sir, what’s wrong?” she asked, her voice laced with worry.
Exhaustion washed over Adam, and he struggled to find his words. “Where’s Renee? Has she come home?” His voice was strained, each syllable heavy with anxiety.
The housekeeper shook her head, her expression mirroring his dread. “No, Madam hasn’t come back. Is everything alright? Has she gone missing?”
The impact of her words hit Adam like a physical blow, causing him to stagger back and collapse onto the edge of the neatly made bed.
“Sir, are you alright?” the housekeeper gasped, her concern deepening as she watched him.
