Once She Came Like a Flash novel Chapter 62

**TITLE: Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 62**

The Grahams stood no chance against the Jacksons. The mere thought that Renee might have fallen into Chris’s clutches sent a shiver down Adam’s spine. The repercussions of such a scenario would have been catastrophic, and the weight of that realization settled heavily on his shoulders.

Guilt washed over him like a tidal wave, and in a moment of desperation, he enveloped Renee in his arms, hoping to convey his remorse through the warmth of his embrace.

“I’m so sorry, Renee. I can’t believe I was such a fool! Leaving you alone at the hotel was a terrible mistake. I thought Julian would take care of you, that he would ensure you got home safely. It’s all my fault. I’m truly sorry. I was just so consumed with worry about Kayla yesterday. You know how spoiled she can be…” His voice trailed off, the words tasting bitter on his tongue.

At that moment, Adam felt an overwhelming urge to explain himself, but he quickly realized that each attempt only deepened the chasm between them.

Renee, her fury palpable, shoved him away with a force that startled him. “Get out!” she shouted, her voice echoing with an intensity he had never witnessed before. It reminded him of that harrowing day on Seraph Island when she had been so traumatized that she struck Kayla out of sheer frustration.

“Honey, I’m so sorry. I’m such a jerk. I shouldn’t have doubted you, not for a second. Please, just listen to me…” His heart raced as guilt gnawed at him, a relentless predator. How could he have ever doubted her integrity?

But no matter how sincere his apologies were, he could see that Renee’s heart was barricaded against him. With a fierce determination, she seized his wrist, flung the door open, and pushed him out with a force that left him reeling.

“Get out!” she commanded again, her voice laced with pain and anger.

Bang! The door slammed shut with such ferocity that the window panes rattled in their frames, as if echoing the tumult within their relationship.

Inside, Renee leaned against the solid door, pressing her palms flat against its surface, her head bowed in defeat. A heavy weight settled in her chest, a mix of anger and sorrow that felt suffocating.

Outside, Adam stood there, a sense of helplessness washing over him. He gently tapped on the door, hoping for a sign of forgiveness. “Honey, I really was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I’m so, so sorry.”

His voice trembled with desperation. “Honey, please just forgive me this once, okay? I’m begging you.”

“Please, open the door for me. If you’re angry, shout at me, hit me, do anything, but don’t shut me out like this.” His pleas echoed in the silence, a heartbroken melody.

But no matter how many times he called out, Renee remained resolute, refusing to open the door. She retreated to the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face, trying to wash away the turmoil. After changing into a fresh outfit, she grabbed her purse and steeled herself for what lay ahead.
