Once She Came Like a Flash novel Chapter 8

**Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 8**

As the heavy door of the detention center swung open, Lola emerged, her figure appearing frailer than before, as if the very air had conspired to strip away her strength. The deep shadows beneath her eyes told a story of sleepless nights and endless turmoil, remnants of a nightmare she longed to escape.

She stumbled out into the daylight, her steps unsteady, as though she were a fragile leaf tossed about by a relentless wind. The world around her felt surreal, a cacophony of flashing cameras and shouting reporters that ensnared her like a web. Their invasive questions pierced through her haze, each one a sharp jab that left her reeling.

“Miss, reports suggest you were the Hudsons’ housekeeper. Did you attempt to kidnap the young master in a desperate bid to force Charlie into marriage?” a reporter shouted, his voice cutting through the crowd.

“Were you so incensed by Charlie’s lavish proposal to Rose that you resorted to this?” another added, their tone dripping with disdain.

“Tell us, what made you believe a maid could ever ascend to the ranks of the Hudsons? Where did such a delusion originate?”

The jeers were more painful than the blinding lights that surrounded her. Each taunt felt like a dagger, and she could feel the heat of humiliation rising within her. In a moment of sheer panic, she pressed her hands against her ears, trying to block out the cruel laughter and filthy jokes that enveloped her. Pushing through the throng, she darted toward her car, her heart racing as she fumbled for the divorce papers that felt like her only lifeline.

“Charlie and I are married! Rose is the true homewrecker! This document proves it!” she cried out, holding the papers aloft like a shield against the onslaught.

But her voice was swallowed by the chaos. In an instant, a hand reached out, snatching the papers from her grasp and tearing them into shreds. The fragments danced through the air, swirling like confetti on the pavement, while the crowd erupted in cruel laughter.

“She’s lost in her own fantasy! Can you believe it? She thought she could actually become Mrs. Hudson!” one voice sneered.

“Who in their right mind would trade a goddess like Rose for that old hag?” another chimed in, the mockery palpable.

The atmosphere shifted as the crowd’s rage turned physical. Lola felt herself being pushed and shoved, nearly losing her balance. Hands reached out, some groping, others tugging at her clothing, as if they were determined to strip away not just her garments but her very identity. In that moment, the world around her blurred, and she felt utterly alone. A voice from the crowd gleefully suggested she be paraded naked through the streets, a twisted form of public humiliation that sent a chill down her spine.
