Oops I Accidentally Ended Her Fake Perfect Life novel Chapter 28

**Chapter 28**

“And one more thing, Charles—you really are pathetic.”

Charles lay sprawled on the hospital bed, feeling as though an immense boulder had come crashing down upon his chest, pinning him to the sterile sheets. The weight of despair echoed through his ribs, a dull, suffocating sensation that left him breathless. His heart felt as if it had been ground to dust, and black spots danced in his vision, threatening to swallow him whole.

With a strained voice, he managed to croak out, “Mr. Chambers… why did Vivian leave?”

“She’s not supposed to be like this… she wasn’t like this before…” His voice trailed off, filled with a mixture of disbelief and sorrow.

Vivian Bennett, the woman who once shed tears at the sight of a mere paper cut on his finger; the same woman who would tenderly blow on his wounds and bandage them as if she were cradling her own heart. Back then, every ounce of her warmth and gentleness was his, and his alone.

But now, even as he lay broken and vulnerable before her, she had the audacity to call him pathetic.

His voice cracked under the weight of his emotions. “Did I… really lose her?”

Mr. Chambers fell silent for a moment, the gravity of the question hanging heavily in the air. Finally, he replied, his tone somber, “Some losses, sir… never come back.”

A month later, the trial of Diana Schuyler commenced, unfolding with a sense of inevitability. The courtroom buzzed with overwhelming evidence and public outrage, and the verdict arrived swiftly: the death penalty.

As the judge’s gavel struck down, sealing Diana’s fate, Vivian crumpled into the comforting embrace of her godmother, her sobs shaking her frame as if the very ground beneath her was trembling. In her trembling hands, she held up a photo of her parents, tears streaming down her cheeks as she wept, “Dad… Mom… can you see this? The sky over Ridgewood is finally clear again. Your daughter has avenged you.”

Outside the courthouse, a wheelchair obstructed her path, a sudden obstacle that jolted her from her thoughts.

Charles Foster sat there, his presence startling to her. After days of absence, the sight of him was a shock; he looked haggard, as if years had been stripped away from him, leaving behind a hollow shell. His once vibrant eyes were now sunken, yet they still held a flicker of the affection she once cherished.

His voice, gravelly and low, broke through the haze of her thoughts. “Vivian… will you take me to see your parents?”

She stole a glance sideways, catching the concerned expressions of her godmother and Northon Shea, both of whom watched her with a mixture of worry and support. She offered them a small nod, a silent reassurance that she was okay.

“Alright,” she replied softly.

The tombstone stood solemnly on a grassy slope, halfway up the hill, overlooking the tranquil valley that had once been her parents’ favorite view. The mountain breeze danced through her hair, and in that fleeting moment, she could almost feel her mother’s gentle touch caressing her cheek, and her father’s familiar hands drying her hair just like he used to.
