Oops I Accidentally Ended Her Fake Perfect Life novel Chapter 29

**Across the Fallen Golden Kingdom Distant Fires by Damon S. Creed**
**Chapter 29**

After a brief silence that hung heavy in the air, Charles bowed his head once more, his voice barely above a whisper, “Forget it. If erasing me means you’ll hurt less… maybe that’s for the best.”

Vivian, her heart aching yet resolute, let out a soft, almost bitter laugh. “If I could turn back time, Charles—I’d choose to never have known you at all.”

Without another word, she pushed his wheelchair away from the cemetery, her back turned firmly against him, as if to shield herself from the memories that threatened to overwhelm her.

Charles sat there, a statue of quiet despair, his gaze locked onto her retreating figure. He felt as though he were watching a mirage fade in the distance, and he dared not blink, fearing that if he did, she might vanish altogether. It was only when she was completely out of sight that he reluctantly turned his wheelchair around, the weight of his decision pressing down on him like a leaden shroud.

He rolled himself toward the police station, the familiar surroundings blurring into a haze of regret. A uniformed officer looked up from his desk, his expression shifting from routine indifference to concern as he took in Charles’s lifeless legs. “Sir, do you need any assistance?”

Charles’s face remained a mask of calm, though turmoil churned within him. “I’m here… to surrender.”

The officer’s brow furrowed slightly. “Surrender? For what?”

Charles took a deep breath, feeling the gravity of his confession settle over him like a storm cloud. “There was a murder. I covered for the killer, destroyed the evidence. I was an accomplice… and I’m ready to accept whatever sentence I deserve.”

Three long years drifted by in a blur of cold concrete and steel bars.

Finally, the day of his release arrived, a moment he had both dreaded and longed for. As he stepped out of the prison gates, the guard gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder. “Don’t look back once you leave, alright? Make something of your life,” he advised, before turning to gather Charles’s meager belongings.

Charles paused as he opened the drawer, his heart sinking at the sight. “…Only one wedding ring?”

He managed a soft “Mm,” his voice barely carrying the weight of his emotions. Before he had turned himself in, he had sold off his entire company, donating every last cent to a foundation dedicated to helping those with disabilities. All the wealth he had amassed felt trivial compared to that one wedding ring—the one that had once belonged to Vivian.

With a heavy heart, he maneuvered his wheelchair out of the prison and into the waiting car of Mr. Chambers. “Thanks,” Charles said, his voice thick with gratitude. “For still remembering an ex-con like me.”
