Yvonne stood holding the black shirt in her hands, torn with indecision. But then she remembered how Marico had gone out of his way to pick her up and, up to now, had behaved like a perfect gentleman.
She decided not to overthink it.
Besides, they weren’t even officially together yet—surely, he’d continue to be a gentleman tonight. Nothing would happen... right?
But Yvonne had underestimated the nature of men.
Or perhaps, Marico had underestimated his own self-control.
After tossing all of Yvonne’s clothes into the washing machine, Marico casually shed his own shirt and threw it in as well.
When he returned, he spotted Yvonne shuffling awkwardly toward the guest room, looking for all the world like a nervous little turtle. Marico’s dark eyes narrowed with amusement.
Yvonne stepped into Marico’s bedroom and froze at the threshold. The sheer size of the place took her breath away—this bedroom alone was bigger than most people’s entire apartments.
It must be nice, she thought, to be so wealthy that even your sleeping quarters rival a three-bedroom flat.
For a moment, she simply stood there, completely at a loss as to where the bathroom might be.
While she hesitated, Marico was already approaching, his footsteps soundless on the plush carpet behind her.
Just as Yvonne finally located the bathroom door and pushed it open, a strong arm wrapped around her waist from behind, lifting her bodily and carrying her inside.
Click.
The door shut firmly behind them. Yvonne, still soaked and sticky from the rain, blinked up at Marico in astonishment.
“What are you doing?”
A moment ago, he’d been the picture of composure—impeccably dressed and calm. Now, not only was his shirt gone, but he’d followed her right into the bathroom!
“You’ll catch a cold. We should shower together.” His voice was cool and matter-of-fact, but the words made Yvonne want to melt into the floor.
“No way. You go first—I’ll wait.” She squirmed, trying to get down and make a run for it.
Amused by her embarrassment, Marico let her go—sort of. He simply lifted her up and set her on the edge of the sink, then stepped back just slightly, bracing his hands on either side of her.
