"You... weren't you asleep?"

He was the type to turn in by nine-thirty. Now it was nearly midnight—how was he still awake?

"Hard to sleep when I'm burning up like this."

Marico's breath, warm and heavy, brushed against her ear.

A shiver ran right through Yvonne—not just from their closeness, but from those words whispered hot against her skin.

She didn’t dare answer. Every muscle in her body tensed, like she might break if she moved.

In the dim light, their breathing grew faster, mingling in the hush between them.

She felt his large hand drift lower, fingers straying into forbidden territory.

Yvonne pressed her forehead to his chest, trying to escape the heat of his touch.

"I'm so tired," she murmured, clutching the soft fabric of his t-shirt, her voice soft and small, laced with a pleading whimper that only made Marico want her more.

"Think you can sleep now?" His tone was teasing, low.

"Mhm." Even her toes curled with nerves, digging into the sheets.

But as soon as he started to lift her leg, she stopped him with a hand on his arm. "No. We can't."

"You woke me up. No take-backs." Marico's teeth grazed her flushed earlobe, his husky whisper sending a thrill down her spine.

She should've just played dead earlier!

With him so intent, all those worries about her family faded. He took her attention, her senses, everything.

Marico leaned in, pinning her gently beneath him.

Her shirt might as well not have existed for all the good it did.

Their bodies pressed close, heat winding around them, breaths coming fast.

"You caught a chill in the rain. We should sleep before you come down with something," Yvonne managed, gripping his wandering hand, her voice shaky, every word trembling as his fingers traced her skin.

The warmth of his palm, the darkness, the way he touched her—she couldn't help the soft sound that escaped her lips.
