Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 165

Yvonne left the conference room in a foul mood.

Grace walked beside her, offering gentle words of comfort, with Nydia chiming in now and then until Yvonne’s spirits began to lift.

“Come on, Yvonne, don’t let it get to you. Not worth your energy. When a dog bites you, there’s no need to bite back,” Grace said, patting her hand reassuringly.

“That’s not fair to dogs, Grace,” Nydia quipped. “Comparing someone that shameless to a dog insults the whole species.”

Grace couldn’t help but laugh at that, shaking her head.

“Bad people get what’s coming to them. She deserves whatever mess she’s made for herself. Our Yvonne is one of a kind, so don’t let it bother you,” Nydia cooed, as if soothing a child.

The two of them, playing their comedic routine, finally coaxed a smile out of Yvonne.

“Yvonne, wait up.” Cedric’s voice called from behind.

All three women turned.

“Hey, isn’t that the genius developer? I heard in Xenia’s team, she’s ranked top, but he’s right behind her.”

“He’s an old high school classmate of mine,” Yvonne replied, watching Cedric approach with his usual reserved demeanor. “I thought the meeting was over. Is something up?”

Cedric hurried over, looking a bit flustered as he scratched the back of his head. “I was wondering if you’d like to grab dinner with me. You know, just as an old friends’ get-together. Would that be okay?”

He was clearly nervous, but he genuinely wanted to spend some time with her.

Yvonne had just been dragged through the mud in front of everyone. The last thing she wanted was food—she just wanted to go home and curl up on the couch.

“Sorry, Cedric, but there’s still work to wrap up at the office, and my husband’s waiting for me at home.”

Not wanting to give anyone the wrong idea, she offered a polite excuse.

Cedric flinched slightly at the word husband, his eyes betraying a flicker of disappointment. “Ah, I see… Maybe another time.”

“Yeah, take care.” Yvonne gave a small wave and headed straight for Grace’s car.

Cedric stood where she’d left him, watching them drive off, unable to tear his gaze away until the car disappeared down the street.

“That guy looks so bookish and quiet—who’d have thought he’s such a big deal? And honestly, Yvonne, I think he’s got a thing for you,” Nydia whispered.

“Of course, Grandma. That’s no problem at all.”

Yvonne stepped into an empty corridor, phone pressed to her ear, patiently listening to her grandmother’s rambling.

When the call ended, Grandma Hamilton grinned and asked Edith to help her pack a few things.

Jessica, sitting nearby and peeling an orange, smiled. “So, Grandma, what’s the verdict?”

Grandma Hamilton chuckled. “Oh, I’m not really worried they got married just because of me. I just want to spend a little time with my granddaughter-in-law.”

Jessica handed her a segment of orange. “That’s true. As family, we always care about life’s big decisions. But it does make you wonder if sometimes the kids rush into marriage just to make the older folks happy. Or if they treat marriage like a joke. I heard Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton tied the knot in a whirlwind, barely knew each other before getting married—very much like young people these days.”

She said it offhandedly, as if she didn’t mean anything by it.

Grandma Hamilton had never questioned it before, but now, Jessica’s words planted a small seed of doubt.

Jessica could see she’d struck a chord. That was exactly why she’d encouraged Grandma Hamilton to spend a few days at home.

“Grandma, once you’re back, I’ll give you a leg massage. As long as you stay out of the cold, I’m sure you’ll feel just fine for the next couple of days.”
