Once the food was served at the dining table, two dishes with a distinct "grey touch" caught everyone's attention.
Pointing at those two dishes, Old Mr. Stone asked in an unpleasant tone, "What is this? Who made it?"
Jolene and the servant who had served the food instinctively looked towards Ariana, who thereby turned into the focus of everyone's attention.
Gazing at those two dishes which remarkably stood out amid the colorful and aromatic feast, Lambert couldn't help but raise his wonderfully arched eyebrows.
For the amusement of all, Aunt Aster poked at Ariana's dish with her fork, and said jokingly, "Oh... this dish is indeed special, it seems like it has been slightly overcooked?"
Aunt Khloe couldn't help but sigh, "Ah, it's hard to believe that your maternal family didn't teach you how to cook. How would a girl who can't cook survive? Poor Lambert."
Upon hearing these words, Lambert gave a sly smile. He put some of Ariana's dish on his plate and tasted it. After a brief pause, he noted,
"Although this dish is a bit overcooked, the taste is not unacceptable. On the contrary, I find it quite agreeable. It does not seem like it was made by someone new to cooking."
With a teasing look at Ariana, he said, "I don't really mind, after all, I didn't marry her for her cooking."
Ariana responded with a smile, meeting his gaze.
Although his response was witty, his eyes said something else.
The old master added, "If you can't cook, then don't. You are wasting food and boldly calling it your heartfelt intention."
She smiled and replied, "Grandfather, there's no end to learning! I wish to be of some help."
The truth was, she knew how to cook. However, if she was too enthusiastic from the beginning, it might be taken for granted later.
It would be better if she cooked occasionally, which might be appreciated more.
"You!"
Old Mr. Stone was choked up for a moment, unable to speak.
Old Mrs. Stone found it interesting as it was the first time she had seen someone dare to talk back to Old Mr. Stone.
"We have servants at home. We don't need her to do these hard labors. It's already commendable that she's willing to!"
Khloe and Aster froze in surprise upon hearing Old Mrs. Stone defending Ariana. They didn’t dare to utter a word.
At the right moment, Jolene chimed in, "Indeed, mom. When Ari heard you were coming home, she wanted to help and learn some things. Even though her work isn't great, she puts in a lot of effort. I felt heartache when I saw her hands injured."
Old Mrs. Stone remembered seeing Ariana's hands full of wounds and sighed longingly, "Which girl isn't treasured at home before marriage? If you can't do it, don't force yourself. Anyway, the house doesn't lack your manpower."
Originally, Old Mrs. Stone had heard a few things about Ariana. She thought Ariana was crafty, managing to reform her carefree grandson and make him willing to settle down.
However, after observing today, Ariana seems to be of good character and polite. There's nothing particularly wrong with her.
Since she could keep Lambert at home and make him behave, it was better than before when he used to fool around outside.
Ariana smiled, and said, "Understood, grandmother."
Everyone then became silent, quietly eating their meals.
After dinner, Ariana volunteered to help clear the table. She saw most of the two dishes she made had been consumed without her noticing and pondered on it.
