Ariana returned home an hour ago with red-rimmed eyes and went straight to her room as soon as she stepped in. Hugh, who happened to see her, knew the couple must have fought again.

"Seeing you still at work, I thought I'd drop by," Hugh said as he placed his cup on the coffee table.

Lambert responded, "Oh."

Seeing his mood was not well, Hugh said, "What, are you disappointed to see me?"

"Why would you say that?" He seemed somewhat surprised.

Hugh gave a slightly meaningful smile, glanced at the chessboard on the coffee table, and suggested, "How about playing a game of chess with me?"
