Khloe saw Jolene in such a panic and couldn't help but want to laugh inwardly. She seized the opportunity to say, "Dad, it seems like the couple must have done something to offend someone. It's not good for the company to suddenly change its president, so let's call Arnold back first. This way, we don't have to worry about unnecessary panic among the staff."
Aster, who was standing next to her, was a bit upset, "How do you know that Lambert and his wife were attacked because of something they'd done? I think you're just afraid Lambert will seize your son's rights. That's why you're saying this."
Stung by her accurate guess and knowing how much Old Mr. Stone hated sibling fights about inheritance, Khloe angrily retorted, "What are you talking about? How can you think of me like this? I'm concerned about Lambert and his wife! They are both in the hospital, and the company cannot be left unattended. Both brothers-in-law are semi-retired, and Arnold has always been in charge of the company. What's the problem with him coming back?"
Aster scoffed, "Arnold is just on a business trip, he will be back. Besides, if that's the case, I hope my Finley can come home. He's been abroad for three years and should come back."
Old Mr. Stone, finding their bickering increasingly headache-inducing, reluctantly pounded the dining table, saying, "Enough! Both of you! The men haven't even spoken! Why are you two butting in?"
Startled by his yell, both women remained quiet.
Turning to his three silent sons, he asked, "What do you all think?"
Understandably, each father would consider their own son's interests. Yet, if they showed preference, they'd risk angering the old man.
Seeing them remain silent, Old Mr. Stone was about to voice his thoughts when Hugh, who had been pondering for a while, said, "At this point since Lambert and Ariana are fine, the first concern should be the company. If this was done deliberately by a competitor, anyone could be targeted next. So it's most urgent to resolve the company's issue."
Hugh's words were objective, not favoring anyone, and focused on problem-solving.
With Lambert and Ariana adequately protected, but the perpetrator showing signs of potential escalation, everyone realized the seriousness of the situation.
The oldest uncle added, "Brother is right, we should now focus on resolving the issue."
Old Mr. Stone considered for a moment, then said, "Let the couple rest for now. Let Arnold handle the business projects, and have Finley come back too."
The two women had been ranting quite a bit, and there was no way Old Mr. Stone couldn't understand their intentions.
Indeed, Old Mr. Stone had some reservations concerning Ariana, and Lambert wasn't his ideal successor, so he took this opportunity to reduce Lambert's power, despite his significant contributions to the company.
Upon hearing this, Khloe and Aster felt somewhat triumphant. However, the thought of the two favored successors that Old Mr. Stone was fond of returning, left them exchanging a somewhat dissatisfied glance.
Old Mr. Stone disliked Lambert and Ariana, which Hugh and Jolene were well aware of.
However, Jolene had not anticipated Old Mr. Stone to favor other grandchildren, even oblivious to Lambert’s feelings. She knit her brows anxiously and called out: "Dad! This..."
Before she could finish, Hugh stretched out his hand, gently grasped his wife’s hand, and silently shook his head.
Jolene found it hard to accept, hesitated momentarily, and stood up to leave the table, her face buried in her hands.
Old Mr. Stone's instructions were swiftly issued. Lambert and Ariana received the personal notice from Old Mr. Stone's assistant only after Arnold and Finley Stone had dealt with transitional matters.
Before Lambert could comment on such a situation, Ariana couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.
"Rest? Do you think I look like I need to rest?"
Ariana had rested for a day, her energy nearly restored, not only was she not resting now, she had already begun working on documents.
She hadn't anticipated that Old Mr. Stone would be so heartless. Even if he didn't like her, would he sacrifice Lambert too?
The assistant bowed slightly, chuckled, and replied using official jargon: "This... Ma'am, this is the decision of the chairman. If you have anything to say, I can deliver your message."
She instinctively looked at Lambert lying in the hospital bed. Upon hearing Old Mr. Stone's instructions for him to "rest", there was no sign of sadness on his face.
Instead, he appeared indifferent.
