Jane liked Vincent very much. But, she enjoyed playing weak to get her male classmates to do things she didn't want to do herself.
Who would've thought it would come back to haunt her in such a big way? She realized, she only had herself to blame.
Jane, in shock, grabbed the newspaper, nearly tearing it apart in frustration. "How could this be?"
She quickly explained, "Uncle, that's not true! I'm not pregnant, I haven't had an abortion, and I didn't frame my sister!"
How true that a white lotus would live true to its name! In an instant, Jane was a picture of tear-streaked vulnerability, with her gentle voice carrying the profound sorrow of her cries.
Gilbert saw her crying and his stern voice softened slightly but still held a hint of anger.
"This issue has blown up everywhere. The rumor involving Ariana has just cooled off and now your problem has surfaced. Some people are even accusing you of frequently interacting closely with male students! Even if what the journalists reported is all false, do you know the saying 'where there's smoke, there's fire'?"
He became incredibly frustrated and said, "Stay home for a few days. Don't go to school!"
With that, he rubbed his aching forehead and went upstairs.
There was already so much to do at the office and now this happened. It impacted the business to a considerable extent. Now, he had even more pressing matters to attend to.
"Uncle! Un…"
Gilbert didn't reply and went straight into his study.
Seeing Gilbert ignore her, Jane became very scared. This time around, Gilbert's anger was more than she ever expected.
She turned to Georgia, who sat beside her with a helpless look, and implored sobbingly, "Auntie, I really didn't do anything!"
Georgia was always soft, she sighed and said, "Your uncle is genuinely upset this time. He's also concerned about both your reputations. Listen to him for now and stay at home until he cools off. Then, everything will be fine."
