The old man was quite surprised when he learned his wife had come to the main house.
He didn't seem to expect her to come.
He very well knew why she was here, all for the sake of Lambert's affair. If his estimation was correct, that wastrel probably went to find his wife.
What surprised him was...
His wife was actually persuaded by their son. After being married for so many years, he thought she had an in-depth understanding of him, usually, his decisions wouldn't change. This was something his wife of a business marriage knew well. So from the time they were married until now if his wife felt something was a sure thing from him, she would almost never try to dissuade him.
Even during the conflict with her family's company.
Knowing his decision, she didn't say anything, nor did she make any foolish attempts to persuade him.
But this time she came...
Perhaps, it was because she couldn't escape the tug of kinship. After all, he knew that the one his wife loved most was their younger son, Hugh.
Thinking about it, a cold smile flashed across the face of the old man.
However, he didn't continue to let the butler reject her, he still gave her face and asked her to come in.
The butler quickly let out a sigh of relief, then hurriedly opened the door to the study.
The people following the old lady were very tactful and didn't follow inside, they waited outside.
The dim light and the usual study decorations made the old lady's eyes flash with a touch of trance. Then she gradually returned to her senses, and her gaze fell on her husband, who was playing with a potted plant on the couch.
Feeling his wife's gaze, the old man casually looked up, and then a cryptic smile crossed his face as he said lightly, "Sit down."
Madam Stone didn't shy away, a faint glimmer of coldness flashed through her murky eyes.
Then, with a face revealing no apparent emotion, she quietly sat on the sofa opposite Old Mr. Stone. Her gaze shot straight towards him before she spoke softly, “I presume you're aware of the purpose of my visit today.”
Old Mr. Stone looked up, “Hmm.”
The old lady smiled, yet there was no trace of mirth in her eyes, she went on, “Regarding this matter, I hope you can forgive and let go of our grandson, Lambert. After all, he is our blood.”
A shade of maliciousness and chill swiftly passed over Old Mr. Stone's usually indifferent face, he scoffed emotionlessly, “You must have forgotten, that child is illegitimate. Originally, I didn't mind raising him as he is, but who would have thought a nourished tiger would become calamity? Even though you have always been at the old house, I believe you’re well aware of what’s been happening to the Stones. Our family has laid down deep roots in the city for many years without any scandal. Yet this time, a wretched scandal has broken out, all because of Lambert! Do you think I shouldn’t teach this kid a lesson?”
Unintimidated by the grandeur of Old Mr. Stone, the old lady coolly responded, “I didn’t come today to debate this with you. I am well aware of your decisive nature. You seldom regret your decisions or stray from your word. I am not here to convince you of anything either. I am merely here to deliver a piece of important information. You can decide what to do after hearing it.”
This momentarily stunned Old Mr. Stone.
He first raised his eyebrows in surprise, followed by a hint of intrigue. He asked impassively, “What matter?”
The fact that his wife would make a trip to the main house must pertain to a significant issue.
Old Mr. Stone: "..."
Old Mr. Stone kept silent for about ten seconds. Following that, his icy demeanor shattered instantly. He stood up abruptly, his hands trembling in disbelief, looking at his wife, “What do you mean?” At that moment, Mr. Stone felt as if a string in his brain had abruptly collapsed!
He seemed a bit unsteady.
After a lengthy period, he managed to calm his intense emotions. But his eagle-like eyes remained fixated on his wife.
Undaunted, Madam Stone met her husband’s gaze and continued, “Didn’t you understand? It means Lambert is actually Hugh's biological son. Initially, Jolene couldn’t get pregnant. He feared we would blame her, so he devised this plan. Yet, he didn't dare to disturb the bloodline of the Stone family and luckily assumed that no one would find out if one day Lambert's blood type didn't match Jolene's in a medical test. What he didn’t expect was that his brothers had found the fabricated infertility report he had made all those years ago. Thus, he let the error continue and told us he was the one with health problems."
A multitude of fury seemed to emerge from Mr. Stone’s widened eyes.
He slapped the table and roared in anger, "Scum! Fool!"
Looking at her incensed husband, whose gaze was red with rage, Madam Stone curled her lips into a smirk, or rather a scoff, "I have no idea whose genes Hugh inherited with his affectionate disposition."
Mr. Stone’s expression became even more grave.
Choosing not to provoke him further, Madam Stone slowly rose and after lightly raising her eyebrow said, “I have informed you about the matter. Now, I have to go. As for your next course of action, I have no comments.”
Mr. Stone's face took on a deeper shade of gloom.
