Although Ariana believed that Lambert's concerns were somewhat unnecessary, she decided to move back to the Stone family to ease his worries. Naturally, the elderly lady was overjoyed, as she could now frequently see her great-grandson. How could she not be happy?
In fact, she was quite pleased with her grandson's arrangement. She even thought to herself that if she wanted to spend more time with her great-grandson in the future, she would find a way to have the company send Lambert on a business trip.
Ariana could see through the old lady's thoughts and felt somewhat helpless. However, she was genuinely happy that the elderly lady adored her son so much. After all, as a mother, anyone would wish for their child to be loved and praised by others, and Ariana was no exception.
Ariana's mother-in-law, Jolene, also knew that Ariana had moved back. She visited almost every day, eager to see her little grandson.
With so many people surrounding Lucian, Ariana gradually shifted her focus to the company. Lamari Group had already taken shape and was arguably the best among the newly developed companies in the city.
Of course, this success was partly due to 'Wheelchair's' help. So, at the most critical moment of the project, Ariana invited him out for a meal to reward him.
'Wheelchair' felt a bit embarrassed but didn't decline the invitation.
However, Ariana never expected to run into an unexpected person.
At that moment, Vincent, who had just come out of a private room in a wheelchair, glared at Ariana. He looked at her, then at the man beside her, and finally, with a mix of jealousy and sarcasm, he said, "Is this your latest fling? He doesn't look like much. Or is there something else about him that you admire?" Then, Vincent suggestively glanced at 'Wheelchair's' lower body.
Ariana's expression immediately darkened.
She coldly scrutinized Vincent, who was still sitting in his wheelchair looking utterly disheveled, and icily retorted, "Is that any of your business?"
Vincent was oblivious to Ariana's disdain for explaining herself to him, mistaking her silence for acquiescence. In an instant, a surge of anger he couldn't quite understand overwhelmed him. He wasn't sure why he was so furious. Initially, his affection wasn't for Ariana but for Jane, and his engagement to Ariana was merely a ploy to secure the White family's wealth. Yet...
Deep down, he had already claimed Ariana as his own possession.
Even if he didn't love her, he couldn't tolerate any form of betrayal from her.
That's why he was so enraged when those incidents occurred. Unfortunately, at that time, he was no match for the Stone family. Although the Thomas family had some standing, it was insignificant compared to the Stone family. Moreover, he was entangled in numerous troubles and couldn't extricate himself. So, he had to watch helplessly as Ariana betrayed him and got involved with someone else! His anger was indescribable at that moment.
But...
Even if he was unwilling, there was nothing he could do.
Especially with the series of events that had unfolded over the past two years.
Now, Vincent's leg was broken, and his position as the heir was on the verge of being lost. All of this was thanks to the White family! So, he arranged for Jane to steal confidential information from the White family. However, he hadn't expected Jane to be so incompetent, failing at such a task and nearly implicating the Thomas family!
Seeing Ariana again, so different from the past, he was overwhelmed with a mix of regret and resentment, his emotions a tangled mess.
In that instant, a fleeting thought crossed his mind.
Ariana’s eyes turned icy, but after a moment, a faint, mocking smile tugged at her lips. She gave Vincent a cold, appraising look before saying, "Seems like your legs have healed."
Vincent’s expression shifted instantly.
Ariana continued, "Go ahead and tell Lambert. I’m not afraid of you seeing anything. You can tell him I had dinner with another man. In fact, feel free to embellish the story." Her tone was laced with sarcasm, her gaze as if she were looking at a clown.
That look twisted something inside Vincent. But then, as if struck by a sudden thought, he relaxed and said, "Ariana, you’ll regret this."
Ariana remained expressionless.
'Wheelchair' had stood silently by her side the entire time, unable to interject, but that didn’t stop him from feeling an intense dislike for the man seated in the wheelchair.
In the past, he had always felt a sense of camaraderie with those who shared similar experiences. But this man? He felt nothing but disgust.
Seeing Ariana’s indifferent expression, Vincent’s face gradually contorted. His eyes reddened, and he stared at her with a twisted, almost manic excitement. "You’ll regret this. I’ll be waiting for the day you come crawling back to me, begging. Ariana, you’ll regret betraying me. I’ll be waiting for you to beg."
With that, he let out a low, chilling laugh.
His sinister expression, paired with the sickly pallor of someone who rarely ventured outdoors, sent an involuntary shiver down one's spine. It was enough to make anyone’s blood run cold.
