A quarrel over Jane...
Even talk of divorce.
Ariana instantly guessed the underlying reason. A flicker of complexity flashed through her eyes, though she quickly masked it.
Unaware of Ariana's inner turmoil, Kiara pressed on hesitantly, "Sister Ariana, what... what should we do now? Maybe you should come back for a while?" Though Auntie hadn't been as warm to her lately, naive Kiara simply assumed it was due to the recent turmoil in the White family.
Deep down, she still wished for Uncle and Auntie to reconcile.
Ariana's voice was calm, almost detached. "No need."
Kiara blinked in surprise before Ariana continued, "Don't worry about this anymore, Kiara. My parents know what they're doing."
A brief silence followed. Then Kiara nodded slowly.
She supposed that was true.
Uncle and Auntie were adults, after all—every word and action carried weight. If Uncle had truly made up his mind, what could a mere niece like her possibly do? Besides, if even Sister Ariana wasn’t concerned, perhaps she was overreacting.
Just as Sister Ariana said...
Uncle surely had his reasons.
In influential families like theirs, marriage and divorce weren’t as simple as for ordinary people. Maybe she’d blown things out of proportion. The realization that she’d disturbed Ariana over something that might never happen brought a faint blush to Kiara’s cheeks.
Embarrassed, she clumsily changed the subject. "Ahem, so... Sister Ariana, where are the kids?"
The corners of Ariana’s lips lifted in amusement. "Asleep."
Kiara paused for a moment. "Then why aren't you asleep yet?" Suddenly realizing something, she added with a hint of embarrassment, "Did my call wake you up?"
Ariana chuckled softly. "Not at all."
Relieved, Kiara let out a sigh. "Oh, good... Well, it's getting late. Goodnight, Sister Ariana."
Ariana's voice was warm with amusement. "Goodnight. Since you're on break these days, come visit the Stone family when you have time. Little Luci misses his favorite aunt terribly."
Kiara's eyes instantly sparkled with delight. "Really?"
"Of course," Ariana replied with a smile. Kiara often visited Lucian whenever possible. With her youthful energy and childlike playfulness, she naturally bonded well with the little boy. Ariana had no qualms about letting her take care of Lucian—in fact, she encouraged their growing closeness.
She had already made plans.
Next year, she intended to have Kiara intern at the company for a while. Since Kiara was studying business management, Ariana wanted to mentor her personally. If their father truly considered passing the White Group to Kiara in the future, she wanted to be prepared.
Unaware of Ariana's thoughts, Kiara was simply overjoyed that her adorable nephew missed her. Her heart melted at the idea, and she beamed. "Alright, I'll drop by in a couple of days then."
Ariana smiled. "Sounds good."
...
Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, Jane's face was dark with fury as she clenched her teeth, fiddling with a listening device in her hand.
She had planted this bug in the White family's phone long ago.
She was determined to keep tabs on every move the White family made...
After being kicked out by Gilbert, Jane had come to the stark realization that he truly had no intention of taking her back this time. The thought left her at a loss—after her release from prison, Georgia's kindness had led her to believe Gilbert had forgiven her as well.
Clearly, she had been too optimistic.
But they were all wrong. Ronaldo wasn’t here for that.
What happened to Beverly meant nothing to him. Her mother had once caused him immense suffering, so naturally, he held no affection for her. Outsiders assumed that, as Beverly’s half-brother, he must feel awkward about Arnold’s remarriage. But in truth, he couldn’t care less—in fact, he was downright pleased.
Of course, that wasn’t the main reason he came. His real purpose was to strengthen ties.
Or, to put it another way, to solidify the friendship between the future heads of the Stone and Lawrence families.
From across the room, Ronaldo spotted Lambert.
With a glass of red wine in hand, he made his way over. They clinked glasses and each took a sip.
Then, with a teasing smirk, Ronaldo remarked, "So, where’s your precious wife today? Didn’t bring her along?"
Lambert shot him a glare. "What do you want?"
If not for the meaningful look Ronaldo had given him earlier, he wouldn’t have bothered coming over. He’d been in the middle of catching up with Stefan, who had just returned.
Ronaldo shrugged. "Need a favor."
Lambert arched an eyebrow. Ronaldo had already become the undisputed authority in the Lawrence family—he genuinely couldn't imagine what kind of help the man could possibly need from him.
Noticing Lambert's silent cue for him to speak first, Ronaldo cut straight to the chase.
With a faint smile, he said, "I know you're acquainted with a doctor overseas. Could you arrange an introduction for me?"
Lambert's brow lifted higher. "Are you in some kind of trouble?"
Ronaldo's expression remained unreadable. "That's not something I can share. Just the introduction will suffice." He paused briefly before adding, "Oh, and about Alvin..." A flicker of something complicated passed through his eyes at the mention of the name, but in the end, he simply said, "If possible, keep an eye on him for me."
