Just as Allison had thought, Ariana also believed that Stefan wasn't the type to cheat, so that possibility never crossed her mind. Instead, she suspected that perhaps Lexi had latched onto Stefan again.
That was the only plausible explanation.
Considering how obsessed Lexi was with Stefan, it was highly likely.
But she knew Stefan’s character well—there was no way he would be the problem here.
In that case, Allison’s worries were nothing more than unnecessary anxiety.
Ariana typed back: "Maybe she just saw Stefan again. You have to trust him, Allison. As long as you believe in him, nothing will go wrong between you. Your fears are unfounded. The real danger is letting others plant doubts in your mind, understand?"
Allison knew this too.
Pursing her lips, she replied: "I get it. Alright, let’s drop this—it’s stressing me out. By the way, do you want a gift? I’ll bring you something you’ll absolutely love when I get back."
Ariana chuckled.
Allison hadn’t changed—her ability to switch topics was unmatched.
Clearing her throat, she typed: "Sure~"
Allison: "See how good I am to you? Even my own son doesn’t get this kind of treatment!"
Ariana smiled: "Yes, yes, no one in the world treats me better than the great Miss Allison Jay. I’m deeply touched and eternally grateful."
On the other end, Allison nearly burst out laughing at Ariana’s reply.
Before she could respond, the bedroom door suddenly swung open. Stefan stepped inside, his expression grim, an unspoken agitation clinging to him like a shadow. Even Ariana would’ve been startled if she’d seen him like this.
The current Stefan was completely different from his former self, with unkempt stubble still shadowing his jawline.
His eyes were dark and fathomless.
Gone was any trace of the refined, elegant gentleman he once appeared to be.
The moment Stefan caught sight of Allison, his gaze softened instantly. He walked toward her slowly, and she greeted him with a gentle smile. She knew how exhausted he had been these past few months. Between caring for Beibei and the relentless hospital visits, neither of them had gotten much rest.
Allison stood and wrapped her arms lightly around him, murmuring, "We'll be heading home soon. Once we're back, you can finally get some proper rest."
Beibei was nearly recovered now.
With careful recuperation after their return, everything should be fine.
It was the best news Allison had received all year.
Stefan stroked his wife's back absently, his voice rough as he replied, "Yeah."
Something felt off to Allison. He was unusually quiet today. Back when they were both consumed with worry over Beibei, it had always been Stefan who tried to lift her spirits with conversation. But at some point, without her realizing, he had grown increasingly withdrawn.
She hadn't noticed before—her mind had been entirely preoccupied with their child.
Now, the sudden awareness left an inexplicable hollowness in her chest.
A foreboding sense of unease prickled at her. She bit her lower lip lightly before speaking in a hushed tone, "Stef."
Stefan: "Hmm?"
Allison pulled back slightly, meeting his eyes directly as she asked softly, "Tell me—has something happened recently?" Could it be... was he troubled over Lexi? Was he struggling with how to bring it up to her?
As she clicked her mouse, Ariana called out, "Bring it here."
The maid outside the door acknowledged softly before heading downstairs to fetch the meal.
On her way down, she ran into another maid, Sheryl Egan, who glanced at her and smiled. "Going to get dinner for madam?"
The maid nodded. "Yes."
"Hmm, why don’t I help you? You weren’t feeling well today, right? It’s just a small task—let me handle it."
The maid hesitated, her expression uneasy. "That… might not be appropriate."
"What’s the big deal? Madam has such a gentle temperament—she wouldn’t get upset just because someone else delivered her meal, would she?" Sheryl chuckled.
The maid pressed her lips together, still visibly conflicted.
She couldn’t shake the memory of Sheryl’s complaints from a few days ago. Though Sheryl hadn’t said anything outright inappropriate afterward, those words had stuck in her mind. She worried that Sheryl might impulsively blurt out something disrespectful again. Now, seeing Sheryl volunteer to deliver dinner to Madam, she couldn’t help but hesitate. She hadn’t forgotten the disdain lacing Sheryl’s tone when speaking of the young mistress.
Sheryl seemed to pick up on her hesitation.
With a sigh, she put on an exasperated smile. "You’re still thinking about what I said that day, aren’t you? Honestly, I was just joking." She added quickly, "Really, just a joke—don’t take it to heart."
Since Sheryl was a distant relative of the housekeeper, the maid didn’t dare push back too much.
She had indeed bee thinking about those remarks.
But she had no intention of reporting them to Sir Lambert or his wife. Without solid proof, spreading rumors would only stir up trouble—she might end up outsmarting herself.
All she wanted was to work quietly in the Stone Family household without any drama.
