Rebirth Revenge Is Everything (Ariana) novel Chapter 574

Perhaps it was just a coincidence.

At that very moment, Lambert happened to be heading out, and he ran straight into Irene, who had just brought Lucian home.

Lambert narrowed his eyes slightly.

Irene, on the other hand, paused for a moment, her expression unreadable—complex, to say the least.

She gently patted Lucian’s head and said with a smile, "Lucian was very well-behaved. Since he and Jake are classmates and good friends, I thought I’d drop him off on my way." Then, as if remembering something, she added, "I know you’re busy, but kids need looking after too."

This time, Irene had learned her lesson. She didn’t dance around the subject like before, instead keeping her tone light, almost teasing, as if she were just an ordinary friend joking around.

Lambert shot her a glance and replied flatly, "Mm."

Then, turning to Lucian, he said, "Go on inside by yourself. I’ve got things to take care of. Look after your brothers."

Lucian was already used to his father’s recent disappearances. Besides, Lambert often traveled for work, so the boy didn’t find it strange. Still, he tugged lightly at his father’s sleeve, his eyes wide and hopeful. "Is Mom home?"

Lambert fell silent.

After a moment, he answered calmly, "Your mom’s busy. She hasn’t come back yet. She’ll be home in a couple of days."

The light in Lucian’s eyes dimmed instantly.

He looked crestfallen.

But he understood that both his parents had their own responsibilities, so he nodded obediently. "Oh… okay. I’ll go in now." Then he turned to Irene and waved. "Bye, Auntie."

Irene waved at him with a smile.

Only after Lucian had completely disappeared into the villa did Irene turn to Lambert and ask, "Lucian still doesn’t know about Ariana’s situation, does he?"

Lambert frowned.

Irene gave a bitter smile. "I don’t mean anything by it. I only just found out myself."

Lambert said nothing. After giving her a cool, indifferent glance, he replied, "I have other matters to attend to. If you’re looking for my sister-in-law, you can go in yourself."

Irene froze for a moment.

Then, slowly, she lowered her lashes and curled her lips into a self-deprecating smile. "No, I should get going. I need to take Jake home—he’s waiting for me in the car." She paused before adding, her voice hoarse, "But don’t worry too much. I’m sure Ariana will be fine."

Lambert responded with nothing more than a detached "Mm," then walked away without another word.

Irene watched his retreating figure, her eyes dim with unspoken emotions.

...

At the hospital, Allison had been officially diagnosed as being in a vegetative state.

As for Ariana...

The doctor fell silent.

Lambert closed his eyes briefly, exhaling through his nose. When he spoke again, his voice was icy. “Give me the facts. No guesses, no assumptions. I want to know *exactly* when my wife will wake up.”

By now, the doctor’s hands were slick with sweat.

He clenched his teeth and glanced at President Stone before speaking hesitantly, "Well... I'm sorry, Mr. Stone, but I need to run some more tests before I can give you a definitive answer."

Lambert's face remained impassive. "After all the resources the Stone family has invested in your team, this is the answer you give me?"

This was the Stone family's private medical team, composed of top-tier doctors hired at salaries ten times the industry standard to ensure the health of every Stone family member. Naturally, such an unsatisfactory response was unacceptable to Lambert.

The doctor knew this all too well. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he struggled to maintain his composure. After a long silence, he finally ventured, "Mr. Stone... your wife's condition is indeed unusual. Medically speaking, she should have regained consciousness by now, yet she remains unresponsive. All brain scans show normal activity. There's only one possible explanation..." He swallowed hard. "She doesn't want to wake up."

This conclusion had haunted him for days.

The evidence pointed nowhere else. Yet how could this make sense? Everyone in the Stone Family household knew how deeply Lambert and his wife loved each other, blessed with three children, and what appeared to be a perfect marriage. Why would Madam Stone choose not to return? Typically, such psychological withdrawal only occurred in cases of severe emotional trauma—when the pain became so unbearable that the will to live faded.

Though this diagnosis had nagged at him, the doctor had withheld it until now. With his position hanging by a thread, he finally voiced the unthinkable.

Just as he anticipated, Lambert's reaction was volcanic. Shock flashed across the man's aristocratic features before freezing into glacial fury.

To Lambert, this was clearly the desperate excuse of an incompetent physician who'd failed to diagnose Ariana's condition. The implication that his wife might reject their life together—that some hidden sorrow could outweigh her love for him and their children—was beyond insult. He knew Ariana's heart. This so-called medical opinion wasn't just wrong; it was an affront to their entire marriage.
