She shot Sheryl several sharp glances before spitting out venomously, "I won't go with you to the butler's office because I'm in the right. As for why I'm refusing, you know damn well the reason. I won't waste my breath arguing, but let me give you some advice—a servant should know her place. Don't get ideas above your station, thinking Sir Lambert would ever fancy you. Everyone in the Stone Family household knows how devoted he is to his wife. I get that young people want shortcuts in life, but stooping to such shameless, lowly tricks? That's beyond me."
The brutal directness of her words froze Sheryl's face into a mask of shock.
The other servants exchanged amused glances, clearly enjoying the spectacle. Fortunately, they all knew better than to let things escalate—this kind of drama could spiral out of control fast. A few stepped in to mediate.
Luckily, the maid who'd lashed out wasn't looking for a full-blown confrontation either, so she backed off.
Sheryl, however, worked in furious silence, her movements sharp and hurried. Anyone looking closely would have seen the humiliated fury burning in her eyes.
Truth be told, the outspoken maid already regretted her harsh words. She didn’t actually know the full story, and Sheryl hadn’t made any overt moves. If Sheryl decided to turn the tables and accuse her of slander, she’d be done for.
She breathed a quiet sigh of relief when Sheryl seemed lost in thought instead of retaliating.
But what she couldn’t have anticipated was that her cutting remarks had only hardened the long-suppressed resolve in Sheryl’s heart.
The humiliation stung because she was just a servant, Sheryl thought bitterly.
But if she became Sir Lambert’s mistress—would any of them dare treat her this way then? Even Ariana would have to watch her step around her.
The more she dwelt on it, the more the idea took root. She knew Sir Lambert had taken many lovers before Ariana came along. Surely he couldn’t be completely devoted to just one woman all this time. Even if he had loved her once…
How much of that love could possibly remain?
At this thought, a glint of desire and ambition flashed in Sheryl's eyes.

Little did Ariana know that she now faced not only external threats but internal turmoil as well.
Her mind was preoccupied with one thing—the matter concerning Allison.
After returning home and paying her respects to the elderly matriarch, she expressed her intention to visit the Morris family to check on Allison's condition. The old lady was momentarily taken aback, her brows instinctively furrowing as she said, "Ariana, dear, your second sister-in-law just had a child. Why don't you go see her first?"
Though the Stone family matriarch didn't concern herself much with outside affairs, she was privy to some details about the Morris family's situation—especially since her own granddaughter-in-law had been involved in the same incident as the Morris family's daughter-in-law.
Seeing her granddaughter-in-law's current state, it was clear she remained unaware of the Morris family's granddaughter's passing or the fact that their daughter-in-law had slipped into a vegetative state. Given this, the old lady decided to keep the truth under wraps for now. After all, this granddaughter-in-law had always been quite endearing to her.
Not to mention, she had blessed the Stone family with three adorable great-grandsons.
In the eyes of the somewhat traditionalist matriarch, Ariana was nothing short of a family benefactor.
Ariana bit her lip, meeting the old lady's gaze before reluctantly conceding, "Alright, I'll visit Second Sister-in-law first." There was no arguing with the matriarch's words, so she resolved to postpone her visit to the Morris family for later.
Lucian, standing beside her, brightened up and chimed in eagerly, "Great-grandma, can I go with Mom to see the baby brother, too?"
The moment her beloved great-grandson spoke, the matriarch's entire face softened with affection, her eyes crinkling with delight.
"Of course, go ahead," she replied warmly.
It was a serious injury.
In an instant, Ariana's expression shifted through a spectrum of emotions. Regret gnawed at her—she should have pressed Lambert for answers back at the hospital.
Lucian, still a child, couldn't grasp his mother's thoughts, but his keen sensitivity picked up on her unease. Tentatively, he asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"
Ariana shook her head. "It's nothing."
Despite her turmoil, she clung to reason. Even if worry consumed her, she knew she had to follow the old lady's instructions and visit Gwen first.
After checking on Gwen and the baby, she would head to the Morris family.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Irene was video-calling Madelyn. Having returned to the U.S., Irene found herself in daily video chats with Madelyn, who was struggling with the separation.
Today was no different.
Madelyn's belly had grown noticeably larger, and Irene teased, "That’s definitely going to be an adorable, clever little chubby boy."
Madelyn shrugged. "I’d prefer a daughter. Girls are more thoughtful."
Her dislike for Arnold hadn’t faded, and after all this time in the Stone Family household, she had come to understand her in-laws' temperaments all too well. If she bore a son, there was a hundred percent chance her mother-in-law would spoil him rotten. Better to have a daughter and spare the child that fate.
