Chapter 409 The Last Hope
Third Person POV
Xavier paused, then replied, “Yes, one that John developed.”

Hearing this, Aubrey was also a bit surprised. That kid John hadn’t participated in the core live- specimen experiments since joining the lab, only handling data externally. She hadn’t expected him to be able to develop a decent painkiller.
While she was unconscious, she had felt the painkiller’s effects. Although it only kicked in when she felt she was about to die from the pain, it still provided powerful relief from the agony. If his painkiller was combined with the one she had developed, perhaps it would be even better.
With this in mind, Aubrey told Xavier her idea about the supportive potion.
Xavier’s eyes lit up. Previously, they had no idea what the serum would do when injected, only speculating it would be painful. They thought it was a side effect, a drawback, so they had been focused on changing the serum itself, not assisting it with external means as Aubrey suggested.
Aubrey’s words were a sudden enlightenment. All the werewolf doctors began to work overtime. Many of them hadn’t slept in a long time, but their spirits were high.
After all, with only thirty–something hours left, time was truly short.
“Everyone! Whether we save lives, whether the world watches, success or failure hinges on this one effort. Do you have confidence?!”
Aubrey asked loudly.
“Yes!”
All the werewolf doctors gave her their most resolute answer!
John was also brought over to participate in the urgent task of improving the painkiller; he indeed had a talent for it. However, he was somewhat absent–minded after arriving, his gaze always stealing glances at Aubrey.
He still couldn’t believe that this omega was the werewolf who had participated in the live- specimen experiments.
Never mind the past, just looking at the time since he arrived at the Miguel family’s lab, that live–specimen subject had undergone experiments two or three times almost every week. The first time, perhaps one could endure it with the reckless courage of facing the unknown. But the second, and the third time?

Those harsh words suddenly rushed back like blades–he had said, “You’re the one who deserves to die!”
At the time, he had only seen her as a useless omega, a leech sucking the lifeblood from the Alpha. An omega who, after getting infected, needed the Alpha to gamble his own future and the future of Shadowmoon Pack to save her!
He had truly hated her then!
But now, those words were like poison–tipped needles, stabbing back into his own heart.
The cold, white light of the lab illuminated Aubrey’s deathly pale face. In those eyes, usually so calm, was the deep exhaustion from the live–specimen experiments.
His hands, hanging at his sides, clenched unconsciously.
He really wanted to slap himself.
