Chapter 458 A Hundred Cages
Third–Person POV
Onyx had been to the Mountain Pack several times before, and he still remembered a small path.
At a fork in the road, Onyx stopped, his brown wolf eyes scanning the area before choosing the path to the right. But he didn’t walk on it; instead, he agilely leaped into the adjacent bushes while carrying Aubrey.
The bearded werewolf was startled but followed him in.
The two of them forged ahead through the bushes and soon reached a small cave, just large enough for a single adult werewolf to pass through.
Onyx narrowed his eyes. The cave’wasn’t high, and he couldn’t pass through while carrying Aubrey on his back. So, he shook his body, letting Aubrey slide to the ground, then opened his mouth, gripped Aubrey by the abdomen, and carried her forward.
He controlled his strength; his fangs did not break the skin on Aubrey’s stomach.
Seeing this, the bearded werewolf quickly followed.
Just moments ago, several aircraft had flown overhead, clearly searching for them.
After about half an hour of twisting and turning, Onyx finally led Aubrey and the bearded werewolf into the Mountain Pack.
There weren’t many werewolves in the Mountain Pack, and because of the curse, they had almost no contact with the outside world. The only reason Onyx knew the way was by pure chance. Two years ago, he had encountered an injured werewolf nearby. After saving him, he learned the werewolf was a beta from the Mountain Pack who had been injured while trying to capture a lone she–wolf.
After that, Onyx had some dealings with the Mountain Pack. The more contact he had, the more he realized just how crazy the werewolves of the Mountain Pack were. Every single one of them lived under the shadow of the Moon Goddess’s curse, their lives painful and maddening.
Their method for breaking the curse was to capture she–wolves and force them to reproduce. If a she–wolf gave birth to a female cub, that she–wolf could become the Mountain Pack’s Luna— this Luna was still shared by the entire pack. Her only privilege was that she only needed to mate with one werewolf per day, instead of having a dozen more lined up and waiting while she was in the act.
But if her second cub was not a female, her status as Luna would be immediately revoked.

And every Mountain Pack werewolf who awakened their wolf soul had to “hunt” a she–wolf from the outside and bring her back on the day they came of age. It was a symbol of their adulthood.
Over time, there were fewer and fewer werewolves in the surrounding mountains, and the she- wolves they could “hunt” became rarer, while the pack’s internal curse remained. With fewer she–wolves, they produced fewer offspring.
By now, there were only about 150 werewolves left in the Mountain Pack.
After being thrown into a cage, Aubrey finally woke up. The moment she did, the burning sensation and pain from the silver in her body made her even more alert.
Assessing her situation, she tried to struggle, only to find her hands were bound. A long, silver- plated strip was stabbed straight through both of her wrists, skewering her hands together. Any movement brought excruciating pain.
“Ella?”
Aubrey called for Ella in her mind but still received no response.
Her expression darkened. She smelled a conspiracy. How could it be such a coincidence that just as someone was kidnapping me, my wolf Ella just happened to disappear?
But this was clearly not the time to think about that. Aubrey turned her head, scanning her surroundings, trying to find a way to escape.
It was a black iron cage, roughly two meters in length, width, and height. Three sides of the cage were covered in wolfsbane, which was twined around the bars. The only side without wolfsbane was the iron gate used for entry.
Outside the gate, two burly werewolves stood guard.
And not far away…
Aubrey’s eyes instantly widened. In the distance, there were hundreds of identical black iron cages!
