Hushed gossip floated out of the pantry and reached Annie's ears as she walked by. She didn't slow down for even a second, and her expression remained calm.
Where Sean went or what he planned to do no longer had anything to do with her.
She had left all of that behind. Even thinking about them felt disgusting.
Holding the file folder, Annie paused at Linda's door and knocked on it lightly.
"Come in." Linda sat behind her desk, and her smile warmed when she saw Annie.
"Linda, the second project is done." Annie set the folder down on the desk.
Linda was just about to speak when a cheerful voice cut in from the couch. "Annie!"
Annie turned toward the sound and froze for a second.
A gorgeous woman lounged on the couch. It was Suzanna.
Suzanna shot her a playful wink.
Linda looked at them, her smile deepening. "It looks like you two know each other well. Perfect timing. Your third project has just arrived."
She picked up another file from the desk and handed it to Annie. "Ms. Snyder will go over the details with you."
Then, Linda stood, giving them the space. "I'll leave you to it."
With that, she walked out and closed the door behind her.
Suzanna jumped up from the couch and wrapped Annie in a huge hug. "I'm back!"
She had only been abroad for a short break, yet coming home felt like the sky had collapsed.
"Sean and Cecilia are unbelievable. The two of them are the most shameless cheaters I've ever seen!" Her cheeks flushed with anger as she gritted her teeth.
"I never should've gone abroad. If I'd been here, I would've torn them apart on the spot!"
She still hated that she had missed the chance to deal with that pair of scum.
Watching Suzanna fume on her behalf, Annie felt a warm glow in her chest. She patted Suzanna's back and smiled. "It's over. I'm fine now—really."
Annie had been given another life. She no longer wanted to drown in old pain; she wanted to live fully and brightly.
Everything Sean had done to her had died with that closed chapter. She had already walked away from it. Now, she only wanted to move forward.
