Roxanne's face slowly drained of color. Her hand, which was hidden beneath the table, clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
Every single word Cecilia had said was true. It was a set of facts she couldn't deny, and a situation she couldn't change.
Indeed, Roxanne had admired Annie, but admiration couldn't feed an entire studio. Many employees were still waiting for their salaries.
Mosaic Studio was her hard-built creation. She couldn't just let it crumble into dust.
Cecilia caught every flicker of struggle in Roxanne's expression, and her smile deepened. "However, there's still one chance," she said.
Leaning back lazily, she watched Roxanne with leisurely amusement. "There's one chance to get Maeve's order back."
At that, Roxanne bit her lip, feeling utterly torn.
Nothing Cecilia said would ever be innocent, but Mosaic Studio was on the brink of collapse. She had no other choice.
In the end, logic simply crumbled under reality. Roxanne raised her head and forced out the words, "What chance would that be?"
Seeing the wavering in her eyes, Cecilia finally revealed a satisfied smile. She leaned in slightly, her voice lowered to a whisper. "Maeve's pregnant. She's a little over two months."
At that, Roxanne's pupils contracted violently.
Everything clicked into place at that moment. She recalled Amelia's strange request and why Annie had secured that contract so effortlessly.
"If Maeve finds out that the one who leaked her enormous secret was Annie, what do you think will happen?" Cecilia asked, a hint of enticement in her voice.
A loud buzz echoed through Roxanne's head. It went totally blank.
Did Cecilia intend to use the most brutal method of all to brand Annie as a client-betraying professional with no ethics?
Maeve was an A-list actress. Once news of an out-of-wedlock pregnancy spread, her career would plummet.
By then, both Maeve and Amelia would place all the blame squarely on Annie, the supposed person behind the leak.
By then, Annie could simply forget about the order. She wouldn't even be able to survive in the design industry.
