Back home, Annie finally set down her pen.
She let out a long breath and leaned back in her chair, feeling as though all the strength in her body had been drained away.
For the past few days, she had been fully absorbed in her design draft, blissfully unaware of the chaos erupting outside.
Annie didn't know that the storm of public opinion surrounding her had already passed. She picked up her phone, which Christian had somehow placed back on the table, and planned to contact Amelia.
She had completed the design and could finally schedule the next step: measurements and fabric confirmation.
But before her fingertip even touched the call button, a familiar number appeared on the screen. It was Amelia.
At that, Annie smiled and answered the call, "Ms. Brown, I was just about to call you. The design draft—"
"Annie!" A cold, sharp voice on the other end of the line cut her off instantly. It was filled with unmasked fury. "When we signed the contract, you promised to keep everything confidential!"
The smile froze on Annie's face, and she sat rooted to the spot.
Every single word Amelia spoke dripped with accusation. "You leaked the news about Maeve's pregnancy, didn't you? We traced the IP address of the leak, and it was yours!"
Annie's mind went blank with a deafening buzz. She had no idea what Amelia was going on about.
"Ms. Brown, you must be mistaken. I never…"
"Mistaken?" Amelia sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm that seemed to seep through the phone. "Go online and see for yourself! The entire internet already knows!
"Annie, we were blind to ever work with you! Wait for our lawyer's letter! You won't get away without paying a single cent in penalties and all damages caused by this incident! As for our collaboration, it ends here!"
The line went dead, leaving only the cold monotone of beeps in her ear.
Annie was frozen in place with her phone in hand. Her fingertips were ice-cold, and she couldn't collect her thoughts for a long time.
She immediately grabbed the digital tablet beside her. Her fingers, trembling almost imperceptibly, made several mistakes before she finally managed to open the webpage.
The number one trending topic glared back at her.
"Anti-Marriage Icon Maeve Monroe Secretly Married and Pregnant!"
