Restarting Life: Back From the Dead novel Chapter 22

“To give her a chance at a happy and healthy life, we hypnotized her to temporarily erase her memories, so she could fully embrace the love we shower upon her without the weight of past trauma,” Steven explained gently. “When she’s strong enough to face everything, her memories will naturally return.”

“Since you’re here now,” he continued, “let us take care of her properly this time. We won’t allow the mistakes of our previous life to repeat themselves.”

Steven gave Sebastian a sharp pinch on the cheek, his tone half-warning, half-teasing. “If you ever pick on her again, I swear I’ll come after you. And if one day—God forbid—Fiona and I die in an accident, don’t take your anger out on the innocent. When Fiona and I passed in the last life, we had no regrets, no bitterness. We left willingly. Keep that in mind.”

Sebastian rubbed his cheek, swatting Steven’s hand away with a reluctant smile. “Got it. No more stupid mistakes,” he promised. Then, without another word, he opened the door and dashed off to find Felicia once again.

He couldn’t quite understand why his brother acted so harshly in this life. Steven had always been gentle before. But now, that didn’t seem to matter. What truly mattered was that they were together again, united in this new life. They wouldn’t be separated anymore. That alone was enough to ease Sebastian’s restless heart.

Later, Sebastian knocked on the door of the Lane residence. After exchanging brief nods with Richard, Marissa, and Fiona, he set out to find Felicia.

Everyone there seemed to understand immediately that he had been reborn. Steven must have shared the news. The grudges and pain of their previous lives had been wiped clean. As for the children’s futures, they decided to let things unfold naturally, without interference.

Richard and Marissa had finally learned the art of letting go.

For the next ten years, Sebastian remained steadfastly by Felicia’s side. He was determined not to give Steven even the slightest chance to show kindness to her. Whether Felicia preferred Steven’s gentle, caring nature or Sebastian’s more combative approach didn’t matter—Sebastian was resolved to make sure she only had eyes for him.

Perhaps because Felicia had always seen Fiona and Steven as a couple since childhood, she never gave much thought to Steven’s kindness. To her, he was simply her brother-in-law.

But Sebastian was different. Felicia struggled to put her feelings for him into words. Sometimes, his actions moved her deeply. Other times, her heart whispered warnings—that he was a liar, that his kindness was just a façade.
