Restarting Life: Back From the Dead novel Chapter 23

“Who knows? Maybe he’s late because he’s getting ready to confess!” one of Felicia’s classmates teased, her voice carrying a playful tone that stirred the group’s excitement.

Felicia felt a warm flush creep up her cheeks as the chatter around her grew livelier. She lowered her gaze, a mix of nerves and anticipation twisting inside her. The uncertainty gnawed at her, and despite her outward calm, her heart fluttered uneasily.

“I like him,” she admitted quietly, her voice barely above a whisper, “but there’s this little part of me that’s scared. What if he’s just toying with me? What if everything he’s shown is just a front, and one day he reveals who he really is—someone who’ll hurt me?”

Her friends quickly rallied around her, offering comfort with reassuring smiles and gentle words.

“Felicia, don’t overthink it,” one said, squeezing her hand. “You’re still so young. Just enjoy the moments when Sebastian treats you well. If it turns out he’s not what you thought, or if he ever hurts you, just move on. There’s no shortage of good guys out there.”

Another chimed in with a grin, “Exactly! There are plenty of fish in the sea. You’re far from out of options. Actually, if you want, my brother’s single—he’s a great guy! I can introduce you.”

“And my cousin, too!” added another, eager to help.

Soon, the group was buzzing with suggestions, each friend pulling out their phones to show pictures and share contacts of boys they thought would be perfect for Felicia. They urged her to reach out, to keep her options open.

Felicia listened, nodding thoughtfully. Their words made sense to her, and she found herself adding several new contacts to her phone, a small smile playing on her lips despite the knot of unease still lingering in her chest.

Just then, the classroom door swung open, and Sebastian stepped inside. His eyes immediately locked onto Felicia, who was engrossed in choosing among the boys her friends had recommended. A shadow crossed his face, dark and possessive. Jealousy surged through him like a sudden storm. After all these years of caring for her, how could he stand by while others tried to claim her attention?

With a tense expression, he moved quietly toward her from behind, his presence unnoticed by most—except for a few sharp-eyed classmates who turned to watch him approach.
