Savage (Reagan and Kieran) novel Chapter 13

Kieran

I have no idea how long it’s been since I’ve eaten that much food. It shouldn’t have made me full, it was half of what I used to eat. But it did, which tells me everything I need to know about how far along Samson was toward going feral. And it explains a lot about why he’s still struggling with an incomplete mate bond.

I almost feel like I could fall back to sleep, but I want to spend time with my mate today.

“Tell me about your pack,” she says.

I turn and look at her because I can. She really is exquisitely beautiful.

She glances over at me and raises an eyebrow. “Your pack?”

“Sorry, I got lost in your beauty for a moment,” I tell her honestly.

I pull my eyes away from her and look at the road in front of us so I can concentrate.

“My pack is set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I have just over two hundred pack members. The pack is set on the secluded side of a huge lake that partially freezes over in the winter and reflects the forest and the sky like a mirror in the summer.”

“It sounds beautiful,” she says.

“It is.”

“Did you take over when you turned eighteen?”

“I did. My father was a good Alpha, he ran a good pack and it was handed down to me.”

“Where is your father now?” she asks. That pain isn’t fresh, but it still aches.

“He and my mother died in a plane crash when they were on vacation after I took over.”

“I’m so sorry,” she says.

I shrug. There’s nothing really to say. It was an accident.

“At least they died together. I just hope it was quick for both of them.”

“No siblings?”

“No, my mother struggled with her delivery of me. From what I understand there were complications, and my father nearly lost her. He wasn’t willing to risk her life again and he had his heir, so no siblings for me.”

She glances over at me. “I can’t imagine what that’s like. Having six brothers and sisters, our house was always loud and chaotic. Yours must have been ...”

“Quiet. It was very quiet most of the time.”

“Your parents were fated mates?” she asks.

“Yes. That’s why I waited for you. Many chosen bonds turn out just fine. But the fated bond is the one blessed by the Moon Goddess. She’s the one who gives you the perfect complement to yourself. In my case, I must be ugly as fuck, because you’re gorgeous enough for both of us,” I say. I’m rewarded with her laughter. It’s a soft, beautiful sound that warms my soul.

“Have you always been funny?” she asks, looking at me. Her eyes are still shimmering with her mirth.

“I honestly don’t remember.”

“We’ll work on that,” she says, taking my hand and squeezing it before putting both hands back on the wheel.

“Tell me about you. You’re the youngest of this generation’s Guardians, right? That’s why there was such a big party for your birthday.”

“Yeah, I’m the oopsie baby. Although if you ask my Aunt Grace and Aunt Cara, they’ll tell you there was no oopsie about it. My mother always gets what’s she wants and she wanted to have another of my father’s pups.”

“You said she wanted to have another of his pups, not that she wanted another pup. I take it your parents are fated mates too if your mother made sure to bond herself to her mate seven times?”

“Oh yes, although I like to joke that they’re part rabbit with the way they go at,” she says, rolling her eyes.

‘I hope that’s genetic,’ Samson purrs in my head. Thankfully, he keeps it between us.

“I guess you could say that she bonded them together through children six times since my sisters Quinn and Malin are twins, but ...” she shrugs. “It could have been once and I’m sure my father would have been just as bonded to her as he is now.”

“I would agree with that, based on my own parents. And I feel your pain on the rabbit part. I walked in on my parents way too many times when they were alive,” I say.
