Savage (Reagan and Kieran) novel Chapter 16

Reagan

Meadow and I remain quiet as we climb the stairs. I can feel the weight of Kieran’s stare as we go. When we reach the Alpha floor, Tessa stops. Meadow and I do as well.

“What’s wrong?” I ask her.

“I’m not allowed on this floor,” she says, looking at me.

“Says who?” Meadow asks.

She shrugs. “Everyone.”

“Who is allowed up here?” I ask.

“The cleaning omegas and warriors, I guess,” she says.

I look at Meadow over Tessa’s head. Those warriors better not try anything stupid now that I’m here.

“Well, I’m Alpha Kieran’s mate and I say you’re allowed,” I tell her, holding out my hand. She looks from me to Meadow, who nods encouragingly, then takes my hand.

“Do you know which room belongs to Alpha Kieran?” I can smell it, but I want to know how much the pack knows about him in general.

“That one, I think. But I’m not sure,” she says, pointing to the first door on the left. I step to the door and open it wondering if anyone has been in here since Kieran left. The room smells freshly cleaned, but I can smell the scent of Beta Markus and the she-wolf who was with him. I wonder if they fucked on Kieran’s bed before he returned. Doesn’t matter, if I do decide to stay and let Kieran mark me, this bed is getting burned and we’ll be getting a new one.

I close the door and take Tessa’s hand before continuing down the hall.

“Where do you stay, Tessa?” I ask her.

“In the omegas' quarters, Luna,” she says. I open every door as we pass, making sure no one else is on the floor.

“And what are the omegas quarters here like, Tessa?”

“Umm, fine,” she says.

“I doubt she’s ever seen another pack’s omega quarters, Rea,” Meadow says from behind me. I can hear her softly chanting under her breath as we walk. I’ll ask her later what spells she’s casting up here to keep us safe, because I have no doubt that’s what she’s doing.

I smile down at Tessa. “You haven’t, have you? You've never been to another pack?”

“No, Luna.”

“Well, let’s see how tonight goes. We’ll either have a look tonight or tomorrow and have your things brought up here.”

Her eyes go wide. “Why? I’m not allowed up here.”

“Of course you are. I just told you that you were. And for now, you’re going to move in with me.”

Her eyes get even wider, so I stop and gently take her shoulders in my hands, leaning down so I’m at eye level with her. “I know you’re scared, but you’re under my protection now. I take that very seriously, so until things are worked out here in the pack, I’m going to keep you close, okay?”

She nods and I get a tentative smile from her.

“Good. And I have some pajamas you can wear tonight if we don’t make it back to your room.”

When I get to the end of the hall, I step into the room on the right. It’s a big room, probably meant for a teenager or Alpha heir. The one across from it is the same. Meadow takes that one and I lead Tessa into the one on the right.

“Alright, first things first, let’s get you in the shower, young lady,” I say briskly.

“But shouldn’t I help you unpack first? You’re my Luna.”

“No offense, but I don’t want tomato sauce all over my clothes. Now, let’s get you in the shower,” I say, looking around the room and then walking to the bathroom and turning on the water. I realize that the bathroom is empty; not toiletries, no towels, nothing.

“Where can I get some towels?” I ask her.

She shrugs. “I’m not sure. I could ask Nina. She’s one of the cleaning omegas allowed on this floor.”

“Please do and did you eat?” I ask her as I pull one of my bags onto the bed and begin digging around for the toiletries that Tessa will need.

“Umm, no. This was supposed to be part of dinner,” she says, looking down at her stained clothes.

I frown, looking at her.

“Can they have dinner without the sauce?”

“I doubt it. They’ll have the kitchen omegas start cooking something else,” she says.

I’m sure the look on my face is anything but pleasant and Tessa’s eyes go wide.

“I’ll be right back,” I tell her. “Get in the shower. Here is some shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.”

I partially close the bathroom door before walking across the hall to Meadow’s door. She opens it as soon as I knock.

“I need to go downstairs and check on the kitchen omegas. Can you watch Tessa for me. I’ll bring back some towels while I’m at it.”

“Sure thing.”

“What spells did you put up here.”

“I’m not done yet, but after our reception, I thought it best to make sure that we are alerted to anyone entering the floor with malicious intent and I put locks on the doors so only you, me, and Kieran can enter the other rooms.”

“That will work for tonight. I’ll be right back.”

I jog down the stairs, noticing that there are very few people milling around. It sounds like everyone is in the dining hall. Since it doesn't smell like any food has been put out, that’s interesting.

I step into the kitchen, already hearing the voices of warriors demanding dinner.

“Well, you’ll just have to make something else!”

“It will take us hours. That sauce was simmering all day, warrior.”

“I don’t care. Figure it out!”
