Shattered by the Alpha Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 129

Chapterus

I should get going, she said with a gloomy sigh, excusing herself, her eyes welling up with tears as she turned to leave, the movement hesitant, as if she was reluctant to leave things unresolved between us.

Karma is such a powerful, and sad force, isn’t it?Xaviera addressed thoughtfully.

I feel bad for the baby, she huffed, her eyes welling up with tears as she spoke, and I felt my own eyes water in response. What a destiny? I had desperately wanted a child, only to lose it, and now Chelsea, who had been blessed with a pregnancy, didn’t want it. It was a cruel fact that life was full of contradictions and complexities. Yet, as I reflected on Chelsea’s situation, I realized that everyone’s perspectives and circumstances were different. What might seem right or wrong to me might not be the same for her. Maybe, just maybe, this was the path she needed to take, no matter how difficult it seemed.

Dexter is here,Xaviera announced, breaking the spell of my Introspection as I turned to see him approaching us. He wrapped me in a brief, brotherly hug before pulling back to ask.

How’re you doing, Karissa? His voice coated with kindness and concern, and I couldn’t help but feel normal about, as I gave him a playful salute, responding with a grin,

All good, Army Doc Dexter chuckled, and I knew it reminded him of the past. He, along with Byron, Roman, Ophelia, and Nyla, had been part of the special squad in the military and the nickname was a phrase of those days for him and I was glad to see that some things hadn’t changed.

Shall I drop you off? Dexter asked, his eyes scanning the bags as he takes them for Xaviera lovingly.

I shook my head, smiling in appreciation. Nah, I brought my car, thanks,he nodded, his expression understanding. However, in a characteristic display of stubbornness, he insisted on paying our bill, despite my protests. With a warm smile, he settled the check and then gently guided Xaviera outside, his hand resting affectionately on the small of her back as they walked out of the restaurant together.

I let out a deep sigh as I settled into my car and began the drive back home, sometimes I dreaded going back to an empty apartment, especially after Deckard stayed with me for weeks.

Fortunately, today was a Monday off, so I didn’t have to worry about rushing back to work. My job at the furniture shop wasn’t exactly my dream career, but it was a temporary solution to help me get by for the next three months. They had hired me to fill in for their manager, who was currently dealing with some personal issues, and I had managed to land the job after acing the interview. Despite my initial reservations, I had quickly picked up the basics of the job, and things had been running smoothly so far.

Just as I was stepping out of the car, my mind already preoccupied with the day’s tasks making dinner, packing boxes for the upcoming move to Montana- my phone suddenly rang, shattering the silence. Without checking the caller ID, assuming it was either Xaviera or Deckard, I answered the call, my voice automatic as I said, Hello?

Are we speaking to Karissa Davis?the man’s deep, unfamiliar voice asked, and I immediately straightened, my instincts on high alert
