Chapter52

Keith

Something was awfully wrong. The place was encircled by an unsettling darkness, the air thick with an eerie, creepy feeling that made me shiver. It was as if invisible spiders were crawling up my back. The atmosphere was heavy with foreboding, a warning that I had stumbled into a realm of hell. I couldn’t see a thing, but the putrid stench that filled my nostrils was unmistakable. The foul odor was suffocating, malong my stomach churn with a sense of dread.

Then, like the first dazzling ray of sunshine breaking through the darkness, a vision of hope appeared before me. A woman emerged from the shadows, her face tilted upwards, and my heart skipped a beat as I recognized her, Karissa, my beautiful angel.

She was standing at the edge of a cliff, her teet poised on the narrow path that wound its way along the precipice. My instincts screamed at me to act, to rush to her side and grab her hand, pulling her back from the brink. It wasn’t safe, the path was treacherous, and one misstep would be disastrous. I had to reach her, and save her.

I stepped forward, calling out to her, but she didn’t flinch, and didn’t acknowledge me. Then, in a heartstopping moment, she slipped and I dashed towards her, managing to grab her hand just as she was about to plummet down the cliff.

I could feel her weight pulling me down, but I refused to let go. With a surge of adrenaline, I pulled her back halfway, my muscles screaming in protest. She was crying, calling out to me, her eyes blazing with pain and anger. Why did you do this?she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. I tried to haul her up, but she yanked her hand out of mine, leaving me screaming in agony as I watched her fall, helpless to stop it. Time seemed to slow down as I saw her disappear into the darkness, the sound of her cries echoing in my mind.

I snapped back to consciousness, my body feeling helplessly weak, crawled across the floor, grasping for something, anything, to hold onto, but found nothing. The stone of guilt in my heart grew heavier with each passing second.

I stumbled towards the bathroom, my stomach churning with bitterness, and collapsed in front of the toilet, throwing up on the floor. The nauseating taste of my regret filled my mouth, as 1 heaved, my body wracked with sobs. I couldn’t escape the torment that haunted me, the memory of Karissa’s falling form etched into my mind like a sear. Her fall is more of an intentional act committed by me than accidental in my dreams or the reality now

The ache of Karissa’s absence gnawed at me, leaving a gaping void where her warmth once resided. I longed to wake up to her radiant face, her encouraging smile, and the unwavering trust in her eyes. Now, her memory haunted me, tainted by my own betrayal, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had become her most profound regret.

Karissa’s anguish haunted ine, a relentless specter that tormented my every walding moment. I felt like I’d brutally extinguished her light, leaving an indelible stain on my conscience, as if my bare hands were still smeared with the blood of her shattered trust. The cloak of my betrayal clung to me like an unshakeable curse, condemning me to a desolate realm of loneliness, where vibrant hues had faded to dull grays, and the brightness of life had been extinguished, leaving only a bleak, endless expanse of darkness,

The absence of my father’s guiding light left me stumbling in darkness, desperately missing the gentle hand that had always steered me toward the path of peace and happiness. His wisdom, a compass in my life, now seemed like a distant memory, leaving me lost and disoriented. With each passing day, I felt myself unraveling, fragments of my soul slipping away, like sand between fingers, leaving behind a hollow shell of the person I once was.

A whille or hours later, My bedroom door burst open with a loud thud, and I recalled as my older sister Margaret flung the curtains apart, unleashing a torrent of sunlight that assaulted my face.

My sister’s eyes, filled with a deep pain and sympathy, locked onto mine as she gazed at me with a sorrowful expression. I felt a pang of selfloathing, pitying her for pitying me. I was unworthy of her compassion.

slowly sat down in front of me, her movements gentle, and pulled me into a warm embrace. I remained unmoving, unable to reciprocate, as she held me close, her arms wrapped around me. The warmth of her hug felt like an painful inflammation to the icy numbness that had taken hold of my heart.

Then, she left the room, only to return later with a determined look on her face. She gently hauled me up from the floor and guided me to the bed, gesturing for me to sit down as she placed a tray of breakfast in front of me. The aroma of freshly cooked food wafted up, and my stomach growled with hunger, yet nothing seemed appetizing.
