Fine, she scoffed, turning away and dragging her suitcase to the guest room. I groaned into my hands loudly, feeling frustrated. I knew I should be grateful she cared, but I didn’t like the way she was trying to help. Maybe I should just talk to her later, when we’re both not so angry and caught up in giving life lessons.

Today’s emotional reserves were already houseful, and I had another, more critical conversation pending.

After a much needed nap I glanced at the clock, my mind racing. I knew Taylor’s schedule like the back of my hand, and I was certain he’d be home today, considering tomorrow was his younger sister’s birthday. That meant I had to face him today, and have the conversation that had been weighing on me

I hurriedly fixed myself a quick meal, changed into fresh clothes, and then grabbed my car keys. The drive to his apartment building was a blur, it was dark outside plus my mind preoccupied with the Impending conversation.

The security guard buzzed me in, and I stepped into the lobby, aware that Taylor now knew I’d arrived. I took a deep breath, as I made

my way to the elevator.

Welcome, old friend,Taylor said with a charming smile, gesturing grandly as I stepped into his luxurious penthouse. He leaned against the private bar, in a dishevelled clothes and bed hair, scradling a glass of fine scotch in his hand.

So, did you find out which one is pregnant?Taylor asked, chuckling. I slammed my hand on the counter, my face inches from his.

I know you met Rose six months ago,I growled. I know you arranged for her up to be at my bachelor party. I know you fed her those lies that I still loved her.My voice rose. And now I see the resentment fueling your attempts to sabotage me. I hissed.

Why the fuck would you do that?I accused, my voice seething. I was trying to be a better person, and instead of supporting me, you only made things worse.

Oh, then I might’ve hypnotized you to bang Rose,Taylor said, a wicked grin sprawling across his face.

I’ve had enough,I growled, my patience exhausted. You’re going to give me the answer, and I want it now. I’m done with all the bullshit in my life, including you,I finalised.

How does it feel to be a cheater, Keith? His voice dropped to a low, serious whisper, coated with spite.

How does it feel to be fucked up in the worst way possible and have no one understand that you’re fucking sorry? He growled, his face inches from mine, before throwing the bottle down as it shatters on the floor.

How does it feel when you’re on your knees, begging for one last chance, but they can’t fucking forgive you?His painful hissing voice erupted in a wild, tormented explosion.

Myfrown deepened, confusion clouding my mind. But like a piercing gaze illuminating a glittering truth, a spark of realization struck, and questions began to form in my mind, pointing me toward the underlying reasons.

Isthis about Ava?I stannered, uncertainty lurking. We hadn’t spoken about her in ages, since every mention seemed to rip open old wounds for Taylor, who’d desperately sought to escape her memories.

It’s always about her,Taylor’s voice cracked, his eyes welling up with tears as he snapped at me. Everything in my life is always about her.

She was my fucking life, Taylor growled, his voice trembling with raging anguish. With a sudden, violent motion, he crushed the glass in his hand, pieces digging deep into his palm, Blood trickled from the wounds, but he didn’t flinch.

And you snatched her from he spat, his eyes blazing with venomous hatred as he pierced me with a glare that struck like a snake

bite.

We both know that’s not what happened, Taylor,I attempted to clarify his memory, my patience stooping low. His childish outbursts didn’t warrant coddling; he was a grown man, and it was time he acted like one.

You knew it was a mistake, you knew I was high, you knew it would shatter her and kill me. Yet you still went and told her,he roared his face morphed into excruciating pain.
