Uliana gazed at the tall figure in the distance, a storm of emotions rising within her.
Sabrina’s calm voice drifted over from behind.
“Men are the most skilled liars on earth, and love is the most unreliable thing in the world.”
“What do you even like about him? He used to swear up and down that he was in love with Celine. But look—he spent less than two hours around Hester, and he’s already completely smitten.”
“There are countless amazing women just in Port City alone. What makes you think he’d ever truly give his heart to just one?”
“The love you believe in is worth even less than weeds. This is just showing you who he really is—he’s not the right one for you.”
Sabrina gave Uliana’s shoulder a gentle pat, equal parts warning and consolation.
Uliana’s dark eyes met Sabrina’s.
“You did this on purpose, didn’t you? You wanted me to see all of this.”
Sabrina raised an eyebrow, tilting her head but not bothering to deny it.
“Isn’t it better to see him clearly now? Just like with Celine—if you’d realized what she was like sooner, you wouldn’t have been used as a target for so long.”
Uliana took two steps back. Sabrina’s motives were questionable, but her words made sense.
Wasn’t I just a fool being lied to from the very start?
“So I should thank you, is that it?” The words dripped with sarcasm.
Sabrina only smirked, half amused.
“Let’s not kid ourselves—each of us wants something. You want his love. If you can’t get it, then move on. Besides, men aren’t a necessity for women, are they?”
Uliana was momentarily stunned by Sabrina’s worldliness and couldn’t help teasing, “Don’t tell me you’ve had your heart broken by a guy before?”
Sabrina gave a wry smile. “Please, I’m made of stone. No one’s worth that kind of heartbreak.”
Meanwhile—
Sommer and Desmond were happy to indulge their daughter, letting her go all out while they picked up the tab.
Marshall hadn’t planned to attend—until he heard Hester would be there. Suddenly, the whole event seemed so much more enticing.
Once everyone arrived at the hotel’s grand hall, Celine gleefully dragged Sabrina around, calling her “sister” at every turn.
Sabrina played along, smiling and indulging the act. She didn’t touch a bite of the food. Just as she lifted her glass for a sip, Hester snatched it away and downed it herself.
“I was thirsty—hope you don’t mind.”
Hester’s intentions were almost laughably obvious, and Sabrina understood at once.
Unbelievable. The nerve.
Sabrina shot her a frosty glance, said nothing further, and turned on her heel to leave.
At that moment, Hester looked around at the guests milling about the hall.
