A sly smile tugged at the corners of Sabrina’s lips.
Showtime.
She opened the door.
Celine stood outside, her face twisted with fury.
“Something you need?” Sabrina acted as if she hadn’t noticed the storm brewing in Celine’s eyes.
Celine was so angry she was visibly trembling, but she forced herself to keep it together.
“Let’s talk inside.”
She shoved her way past Sabrina and into the room, slamming the door shut behind her, shutting out the rest of the world.
No longer able to contain herself, Celine exploded, her words trembling with accusation.
“Those rumors online—did you start them? How could you do this to me? I always treated you like a sister, gave you my trust, and this is how you repay me? Do you even have a conscience?”
Her voice quivered, humiliation and indignation mounting. The internet was flooded with people calling her a fraud, a fake daughter.
So what if she was adopted by the Sutton family? She was treated better than the so-called real daughter.
Was blood really all that mattered?
As long as Mom and Dad loved her, wasn’t that enough?
Why did strangers care whether she was truly a Sutton or not?
Why did they target her this way?
It was all Sabrina’s fault—this spiteful, hateful woman. She must have started those rumors.
Unforgivable.
“Well, if you’re so sincere, why don’t you cut your heart out and show me? Then we’ll see how real it is.”
Sabrina’s voice dripped with mockery.
She couldn’t care less about Celine’s outburst. Instead, she flopped into the chair beneath the bay window, leaning back with her hands behind her head, a wry, almost amused look on her face.
Celine saw that careless attitude and rage shot straight to her head.
Her gaze caught on a small pair of scissors sitting on the vanity.
Martha, hearing Sommer’s cry, hurried to dial Dr. Lawrence.
Celine gritted her teeth and slowly pushed herself up, tears brimming in her eyes.
“I… I’m fine. It was just an accident—I didn’t mean to get hurt.”
Sommer pulled her into a trembling embrace.
Once she was sure Celine could stand, Sommer turned on Sabrina.
She raised her hand, aiming a slap at Sabrina’s face.
But Sabrina dodged nimbly.
Foiled, Sommer tried a different tactic and aimed a furious kick instead.
Sabrina shrank back, hooking her foot around Sommer’s leading leg.
Sommer’s step was too wide and she nearly did a full split across the floor, rage blazing in her eyes.
“You little monster! You hurt your own sister and now you dare raise a hand to me? Have you no respect? Don’t you fear God’s wrath?”
