If she claimed, just like Celine did, that the injury was her own doing—what would happen then?
Of course, no one would believe her.
They’d probably accuse her of lying through her teeth.
Celine had calculated this perfectly.
If Desmond and Sommer didn’t believe her, then Sabrina would be branded—once and for all—as the heartless daughter who tried to hurt her own sister and struck her mother.
But if they did believe her, it would only enhance Celine’s reputation. After all, here was a girl sobbing through her pain, still desperately protecting her big sister. Who wouldn’t love a daughter like that?
In her previous life, Celine had mastered this very trick, slowly pushing Sabrina to complete isolation, until everyone turned their backs on her.
Sabrina spread her hands. “She stabbed herself with the scissors.”
Desmond and Sommer nearly exploded at Sabrina’s nonchalant, almost indifferent attitude.
A glimmer of triumph flashed in Celine’s eyes. She immediately stepped in front of them, spreading her arms as if shielding Sabrina from their anger.
“Dad, Mom—Sabrina’s telling the truth. Why won’t you believe her? I hurt myself, I would never lie to you…”
As she spoke, her head drooped lower and lower.
Tears spilled down her cheeks.
Her arms fell limp at her sides.
She choked out, “Please, stop blaming Sabrina. It’s all my fault. Can you just… leave, please?”
The first part sounded so normal that even Sabrina almost thought Celine was finally admitting defeat.
But then she heard the last line.
And she laughed.
A leopard never changes its spots.
See? With just one sentence, Celine managed to drag her straight back into the storm.
That was the brilliance of a fake angel.
Desmond’s voice was icy. “Sabrina, I’m so disappointed in you. Apologize to your sister. Now.”
Sommer was already considering sending her right back to the countryside.
Cold.
So this was her mother.
A stranger wouldn’t be so cruel.
How could she treat the daughter she fought so hard to get back with such indifference?
Sabrina leveled her gaze at Celine and slowly walked toward her.
Celine tried to hide her satisfaction. See? In the end, Sabrina still had to bow her head.
She waited for Sabrina’s apology, thinking that her tumble would even things out.
Everyone in the room was convinced Sabrina was about to apologize.
Instead, Sabrina bent down, picked up the scissors from the floor, and walked up to Celine. She took two steps back, measuring the distance in her mind.
She began to reenact the scene.
“I was sitting in this chair. Celine fell like this. So tell me—what kind of situation would make her fall toward me? You’re all saying I stabbed her. What am I, some kind of monster? Do I have a second pair of arms growing out of my back?”
