She had a solid alibi, airtight and undeniable.

While Miles’s parents accused Sharon of kidnapping their son, Sharon countered just as sharply–claiming they were the ones hiding Miles to dodge responsibility, staging this entire farce to shift the blame.

Carter stepped in. “According to Sharon, the Silverstone and Kalen families have been close for generations. Yet Miles stooped so low–drugging her and even attempting to film the act to blackmail her afterward.

“If the Silverstone family refuses to give her an explanation, then tomorrow, the entire country will see Miles’s face plastered across the headlines.

“I hear you’re preparing for the election, Gerard. A son with such disgraceful behavior won’t just turn public opinion against you -it’ll destroy your colleagues‘ faith in you as well. You, of all people, should understand what’s at stake.”

The Silverstone family had deep political roots. Scandal was poison to them. And indeed, Gerard was in the midst of gearing up for the national election.

His facial muscles twitched uncontrollably. He knew–without a shred of doubt–that his campaign would be over.

Sharon was the Kalen family’s heiress, and Carter, standing at her side, was clearly no ordinary man either. This wasn’t a matter that could be brushed off easily.

Finally, Gerard’s composure cracked.

“Then tell me,” he ground out, “what will it take for you to hand over the video?”

He’d yielded.

Carter exchanged a glance with Sharon. She gave a slight nod.

Carter pulled out a contract and handed it over.

Gerard scanned the document, his expression darkening by the second. When he reached the end, he slammed the folder shut and snapped, “This is extortion!”

Sharon wanted to purchase a twenty–percent stake in several of the Silverstone family’s core businesses.

Twenty percent might not sound like much–but with Silverstone Group’s ownership already fragmented, it meant ceding

actual control.

Carter, unruffled, replied evenly, “Gerard, we’re offering fair market value. We’re not taking advantage of you.

“Besides, Sharon controls several cutting–edge tech companies. If you agree to the sale, Silverstone Group could secure priority access to future collaborations. That would raise your company’s profile far more than it would diminish it.

“You should be aware that in its current state, Silverstone Group has little competitive edge. Between owning forty percent of a billion–dollar enterprise- or twenty percent of a hundred–billion one–any rational man knows which choice to make.”

Gerard fell silent.

Uncertainty flickered across his face, a hint of hesitation breaking through his rigid posture.

Deep down, he already understood what had driven his son to such disgraceful extremes–to drug Sharon, to try and force her

hand.
