Chapter 1134
Thomas said, “What I’m after… is the very thing you once threw away like trash.”
Carter froze. Then, a sharp, suffocating pain spread from his chest.
The thing he had cast aside-was Sharon’s wholehearted love.
For once, he couldn’t summon a single mocking word. Because that was something he had once possessed- and could never have again. Something he’d lost by his own hand.
Expressionless, Carter turned to leave, but Thomas’s calm voice stopped him once more.
“Carter, when you were with her, you couldn’t give her what she wanted. You couldn’t even protect her. If not for your incompetence, she would still be playing the violin she loved, not walking into this pit of vipers alone.
“Since
you couldn’t do it, then I will. As long as I’m here, she’ll never be wronged or hurt again.” (1
Carter’s eyes fluttered shut for a brief moment.
Yes. If he hadn’t been deceived by Kelly, he and Sharon would never have divorced. She wouldn’t have gone back to the Kalen family. She could’ve played the violin whenever she pleased.
Not like now, forced to abandon the thing she loved most, to grow up overnight, to bury herself in ledgers and business strategies, rebuilding her life from ashes. 1
Carter spoke. “You didn’t come all this way just to say that, did you?”
Thomas smiled faintly. “Carter, you’re a clever man. I’m sure you’ve already guessed. Otherwise, with the Macaron Group in crisis, you wouldn’t have stayed so still.”
Carter said nothing. He had long suspected that Julliard was fond of Sharon.
That didn’t surprise him. A graceful woman attracts a gentleman’s heart-Sharon’s brilliance made it inevitable that someone would fall for her.
But what he truly doubted was something else entirely.
His previous “accident,” the coma-it had never sat right with him. He’d always believed it was orchestrated by
someone close.
And once the seed of suspicion took root, everything around him began to look wrong.
He recalled Sharon’s accusations-that he had spread malicious rumors about Thomas online, that he’d staged the car crash to have Thomas killed.
He’d never been able to trace where her misunderstanding came from. He’d only thought Thomas was cunning enough to twist the truth. He’d never once suspected his closest friend-Julliard.
But if it was Julliard who had set him up… then everything suddenly made sense.
Still, suspicion wasn’t proof.

If this was all Thomas’s manipulation, meant to sow distrust between him and Julliard, then he would be walking straight into the trap.
Even so, the rift was already there. He could no longer trust Julliard the way he once did-completely, blindly.
In Jamie’s office, a quiet tension hung in the air.
Silas lounged on the sofa, pouring himself a cup of tea.
“Jamie, I didn’t think you’d actually be right. The one threatening Johanna really is someone from Sharon’s side.
He gave a low chuckle. “A dog that bites never barks. Who would’ve thought Sharon could be this ruthless- sending Julliard to defile Johanna.” 2
