Chapter 1169
“But
Before Doug could finish, the line went dead.
He stared at the phone in his hand, frozen.
Across the room, Liam glanced up from his paperwork, taking in Doug’s dazed expression. He had caught enough of the conversation to piece things together.
He sighed. “See? I told you–Thomas’s patience only goes so far. The only reason he’s tolerated things this long is because of her.”
Doug blinked, finally pulling himself back to the moment. “So that means Sharon is his real weakness.”
“Not necessarily,” Liam said. “We thought she was special once, too. And look how that turned out.“>
Doug frowned. “But how can you be so sure she’s not still special to him?”
Liam hesitated. He opened his mouth, then closed it again, realizing he had no answer.
After a pause, he said quietly, “You’re right. No one really knows what Thomas is thinking.”
Doug nodded. “Still, one thing’s clear he treated Sharon, and the one before her, differently from anyone else.”
They exchanged a glance, both smiling faintly.
As for Kelly…
Neither needed to say it. She was just a distraction–something to pass the time.
Kelly didn’t last long. Eventually, she confessed to everything.
She couldn’t lie at least not to someone like Jamie. His eyes alone were enough to strip her bare, and his methods of persuasion were endless.
Now she lay crumpled at his feet, barely conscious, tears and snot streaking her face.
Even after revealing everything, she still clung to a sliver of hope.
“I’ve told you everything I know,” she gasped. “Now… will you let me go? If Thomas finds out how you’ve treated me, he’ll never forgive you.‘
Jamie took the towel his subordinate handed him and began to wipe his hands.
He let out a soft, mocking laugh. “No wonder he could play you so easily. You’re too stupid to even realize it. You really think he helped you out of kindness? He was digging your grave.”
Kelly lifted her head with effort. “You’re trying to drive a wedge between us. I don’t believe you.”

Jamie handed the towel back and settled into the sofa,
“Think about it, Kelly. If he truly wanted to help you, why would he ask you to lle? Anyone with a shred of sense knows one lie only breeds a thousand more. All that effort to cover for you–bribing doctors, faking medical records he could’ve saved himself the trouble by just throwing you into bed with Carter. 1
“And later, when he told you to buy votes and fake fans come on. With his money and influence, he could’ve built you a real following overnight. But instead, he let you chase illusions. Because lies fall apart sooner or later.
