**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live**

**Chapter 166: Fated Crossing**
“He’s not someone you often see roaming outside of Starhaven. I doubt you’ve had the chance to meet him in person,” Edric elaborated, his voice laced with an unmistakable seriousness.
Corvin’s brow furrowed slightly. “So, that’s Alaric,” he stated, the name ringing familiar in his mind, although he had yet to lay eyes on the man himself.
Nearby, the white wolf slumped down onto the grass, a low grumble escaping its lips. “Trouble…” it muttered, the word hanging in the air like a foreboding cloud.
Edric nodded energetically, his expression a mixture of concern and agreement. “Absolutely. Just think about it—showing up unannounced at the queen of Aurelia’s birthday banquet? A presence like that is bound to create waves of trouble,” he said, his eyes darting around as if expecting the very fabric of the gathering to unravel at any moment.
Even Marcus, usually clad in his pristine white attire, had opted for a subdued teal-gray ensemble today, a strategic choice to blend into the crowd and avoid drawing any unnecessary attention.
Corvin’s mind raced with possibilities, and he nodded again, albeit with a hint of uncertainty. “Yeah… trouble,” he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper. Leaning closer to Edric, he lowered his voice conspiratorially. “Do you think Ms. Tibarn would… actually be interested in him?”
The Emberfoxes were notorious for being nothing like the Ashenflame Foxes. Corvin had heard tales of their male counterparts—infamous for their charm and cunning, able to ensnare the hearts of unsuspecting females with ease. The thought sent a shiver down his spine.
Edric remained silent, his gaze distant. Marcus, too, chose not to speak, the weight of their predicament settling heavily in the air.
Corvin’s confidence began to falter. “There’s no way… I’ve heard that Emberfox males are masters at this game. And he’s the young clan leader? That’s… double trouble,” he lamented, the realization dawning on him like a dark cloud blocking out the sun.
He and Edric were no match for Lucien and Silas, and they hadn’t even seen any members of the Enchanter Clan yet. If Alaric decided to make his move, what chance did they have of winning Emma’s heart?
Nearby, Marcus, sprawled out in a rather defeated manner, spoke up weakly. “Should I… just go kill him?” His suggestion hung in the air, reckless and impulsive.
Edric reacted instantly, wrapping his snake-like tail around Marcus’ mouth, stifling his words. “Don’t even think about it. Alaric hasn’t done anything wrong. If you were to kill him, Emma would be furious,” he admonished, his voice firm.
They were not the kind of individuals who resorted to violence at the slightest provocation.
Marcus fell silent, the fight leaving him.
Suddenly, Corvin squeaked in a panic, his eyes wide with alarm. “Look! Look! Alaric is heading straight for Ms. Tibarn!”
In perfect synchrony, Edric and Marcus turned their heads to follow Corvin’s gaze.
Where Alaric had previously stood near the wisteria, he was now adjusting his attire and confidently striding toward Emma and Aria.
His gaze settled on Emma, a calm clarity radiating from him, with a hint of playful amusement dancing in his eyes.
“You’ve been staring at me for quite some time… Is there something you wish to say?” His voice flowed like a gentle stream, smooth and inviting, yet impossible to ignore.
Aria, sensing the tension, took a step back and busied herself with a newly bloomed amethyst flower, pretending to be engrossed in its beauty.
